Today I finished watching Night of the Living dead, and I realized what a great sort of story it was.

I would love to write a zombie story, but I don't know if others have attempted such a feat.

Are there books written about people trying to survive an outbreak of undead?

If so, then please let me know.

How about a zombie romance that takes place in Victorian times? Grab a steamy novel from the shelf at your local drug store and just change the characters to zombies.

I suggest getting some titles via Interlibrary Loan if possible. Save your money where you can.

It looks like a LOT of the titles are by unknown publishers, which means self-published or from places like PubliSHAMerica. A tip off is a wholly unknown writer with a half-dozen 5-star reviews (check for spelling errors) and a sales rank hovering at the million mark.

I try not to slam PA victims, but it is well known that PA is where the crap goes to die.

I'm not trying to be a smart-aleck, but sometimes it seems like half the people here are writing a novel with either zombies or vampires (or another version of Harry Potter). Of course, that doesn't mean someone else can't write a great one and it become a best-seller.

Great. So I suppose you think Mary Sue Potter and the Zombies Who Were Allergic To Garlic is a bad idea.
Now what will I write?

I always thought that the best zombie story (and this is what sort of realist I am) was "The Serpent and the Rainbow" It is a somewhat true account (big question-mark) of a biochemist who searches for rare substances that can be used as medicine, and goes to Hati during some dictatorship, and finds a drug used by Voodoo priests to turn enemies into Zombies. Actually, that was a pretty good movie, and had some basis in fact. I believe there was some truth to this account and the substance is used in medicine to cause medicinal comas.

Zombies seem to be one of the newer trends in Horror and Urban Fantasy. There are a handful of new-ish authors over on the Fangs, Fur & Fey blog who have zombie novels coming out in the next year or so.

Zombies, like vampires and ghosts and werewolves, are a horror staple. A story as straightforward as Night of the Living Dead (zombies attack for pseudoscientific reason, ewww, gross) could be a hard sell, but give it a good twist, and you could be golden.

The only thing written more than Zombie stories is probably Fantasy (which everybody and their little brother writes).

I suppose if you could figure out a new angle or at the very least deliver an interesting story, it'd be fine though.

Actually, way more people write Fantasy than zombie stories, because Fantasy umbrellas a large number of sub-genres. And yes, we are a force to be reckoned with. Little brothers and all.

Though Little Brother is neither a fantasy story nor a zombie story :)

Zombies got mentioned at Wiscon as one of those things evvverybody's doing now.
