So, I'm taking the kids to see Weird Al at the Henderson Pavilion this Friday.

It was a huge disappointment for my kids that they missed him last summer when we went to Texas instead.

I've heard he performs one hell of a show. Anybody seen his show? Comments?

Yeah, I know, I'd rather my kids see Roy Orbison, but he died a while back. The Stones tickets cost too much, and I've seen them at least four, five times before.

It should be fun, in an Amish Paradise sorta way.

I think it takes an unusual and demented sort of genius to twist the lyrics and mimic the styles that he does. Certain forms of art take themselves far too seriously and therefore demand to be mocked. The fact that Coolio got angry about Amish Paradise because he felt that his song was too important to be joked about seems to me a good indicator that we should all make fun of him!

Just for no reason at all, did you know Yankovic used to be a preacher?

I didn't know that. Interesting.

Certainly Weird Al isn't the musical genius that Zappa was, but he's also not as raunchy.

Much of Al's stuff is simple parody, as in "Another One Rides the Bus", but he often hit lyrical flaws pretty hard, particularly with M. Jackson songs and the Nirvanna song.

Sorry, I cannot recall the titles.

Oh, yeah. 'Eat it.' That certainly highlighted the childish, nonsense lyrics of M. Jackson.
