A story of mine was accepted to an anthology which was supposed to come out last year. It was never released and I've lost all contact with the publisher; the e-mail I sent today was bounced back.

Is it safe to assume that the book is never going to happen, and that I can market the story to new places, maybe mention it was accepted but the publication never happened?

Have you Googled the publisher to find out whether they still exist? Maybe they've shut down, maybe they've had a domain name change and thus the email addresses have altered. Maybe they're on the Preditors and Editors list these days.

Also check places like Ralan to see if the publisher's listing has been updated by anyone else who's failed to get responses from them.

If you can't find hide nor hair of them, I say start marketing it again. It's well worth mentioning that it was accepted then the publisher vanished without trace so that your receiving editor knows the history there.

Zines fold all the time, and plans for anthologies fall through. If you've done everything you can but can't find hide nor hair of them, resub.
