Meet Ms. Mindy, our new rescue baby:

And here's the response from the resident small members of the household:

Domino hasn't come down from the mantle...

Gypsy hasn't come down from the kitchen counter...

And Tabby hasn't come out from under the bed...

Any suggestions for playing peacemaker? :D

Time.

That's it. Time. Give the cats a treat tonight--in our house, we call them num-nums: it's usually canned cat food or a little bit of cat milk--which will take their mind off the newcomer for a while.

The new baby is cute, by the way. :)

Pug mix? Very cute.

I agree with the 'time' prescription. They need some time to watch that strange creature and figure out what it does before they come down and risk getting near it. It's perfectly sensible behavior. You'd do the same if a new species was suddenly introduced to your household with no warning!

If I'm remembering correctly, introducing the first dog to our all-cat household was a lot less trouble than introducing a new cat ever was. I think a lot of conflict is avoided once they realize that they have a lot of options (countertops, etc) that the dog doesn't have.

There's definitely chihuahua in there, but I wondered 'some pug?', too. Now, looking around the 'net at pics of pugs... by golly, I think that's it. The color, the length of her body, the tail... I think we have us a pughuahua... or a chipug.

:roll:Those cats are hilarious! I'm sure they'll get used to their new friend.
She's a cutie also. Have fun with her and bless you for picking up a rescue pet.

They're all rescues - that's the only way to go for us. ;)

I'm kinda nervous about tomorrow, though. For six hours, they'll be on their own... Mindy's going to be in the crate and I wouldn't put it past the tuxedo cat to organize a lynching.

Congratulations! She's beautiful. Good for you for rescuing!

The cats will come around when they're ready. You know that's how cats are. Even mine eventually forgave me. It only took a few years. :)

Ms. Mindy sure is cute! I'm sure with a little time the whole gang will learn to accept each other. What a great thing you're doing by taking in all the unwanted babies.

Oh, what a night!

Tabby finally came out from under the bed... long enough to eat three bites of food and tell Mindy - in NO uncertain terms - who the queen of that house was, is and will be. Mindy and Tabby tried the 'I'm gonna stare you down' game. Mindy lost. Tabby hissed at her as soon as she looked away, then Tabby took herself back into the bedroom under the bed and was still there when I left this morning.

On other fronts, Gypsy has finally left the kitchen counter... moved into the bedroom with Tabby and took up residence behind my jewelry box. She finally ate something - once it was delivered to Her Majesty - and settled in for a long nap. Domino had her breakfast delivered to Her Highness and decided the office was going to be her domain for the day.

Mindy had a good romp outside this morning with Ol' Boy, enjoyed her breakfast and some 'me' time with me, then trotted right into her crate for a visit with Bo-Bo and a cookie prior to our leaving for work.

No barking and/or hissing today.

There's hope.

Isn't there?

Cool!
Let us know how it works out.

P.S. Your Domino looks like my late, beloved Habibi who was my dearest companion for over fifteen years.

My post was eaten. huh

Anyway--

Those pictures are hilarious, and adorable.

Congrats on the new addition to your family.

I suspect all the kittehs will take a swipe at her at least once, and it's probably best that they do. Better Ms. Mindy be a little wary of them than too playful or aggressive.

They'll come around in time but, being cats, they'll milk the insult for all it's worth first.

BRING ME MORE FANCY FEAST, INFIDEL! :D
