I just saw it and I LOVED IT!

It was funny, fast paced, and action packed. The Rock once again proves himself as a fairly capable character actor, and the other actors who's names escape me momentarily all did great as their characters.

The plotline was very Get Smart, as was the gadgets, the jokes and the general theme/style. Also, there are some REALLY fantastic "President Bush" digs. My favorite being

"We must contain this noo-kular threat."

"Nuclear! Its NUCLEAR!"

"What was that?"

"Nothing, sir."

So...all in all, a movie worth seeing.

Also it has the best way to stop a person when he's trying to beat you up and is stronger than you.

It really must be seen to be believed!

Also, another thing I liked about the movie was Max was just the right mix of competent and incompetent/silly to be REALLY FUNNY! Too competent, no jokes. Too incompetent or silly, no suspense. This movie manages both quite effectively.

Saw this last night with hubby, who can still quote entire epis from the series. He loved the movie. Thought it was darn near perfect. I thought it was amusing.

I really liked it. Some of the jokes fell a bit flat, but on the whole it was just plain charming. The characters were great, the acting lovely and even the chase sequences for a comedy action movie were pretty cool.

I'm dying to see this movie! It won't be released until next week here in Mexico, so I'll have to wait. Glad to see my wait's going to be worth it ;)

Also there is such lovely reverence towards the original series, lots of great in jokes. And a nice cameo from a comedian in a tree.

I really thought it was great fun. Steve Carell did an awesome job of playing Maxwell Smart as opposed to imitating Don Adams playing Maxwell Smart. Heyjude probably has it summed up nicely: we TV show Get Smart fans will love it, peeps who aren't Get Smart geeks will like it.

Saw it today. Loved the original show, even though I'm far too young for it.

Great movie. They couldn't have chosen anyone better to reprise the roles of 86 and 99.

Hymie was my favourite secondary character on the TV show. If they are going to do a sequel and include him, I am so there!

They couldn't have chosen anyone better to reprise the roles of 86 and 99.
Fantastic casting across the board. Alan Arkin made a great chief, and the aforementioned cameo of Agent 13 (tree) was brilliant.

When researching for my column, I read an interview with Mel Brooks where he said he wasn't consulted at all for The Nude Bomb, but that the makers of this one consulted him all the way through. I count that as a big reason why it's so much fun.

Hymie made me fuzzy inside ^_^

As did the techs. I loved the techs.

"Okay. I'm going to punch you on three. One...two-"

<mimes getting punched>

"I haven't pouched you yet."

"Oh, sorry."

"One...two...three." <throws fake punch>

<mimes getting punched>

"Wrong way!"

The whole family and I went today and LOVED it!! My husband and I are fans from the tv show, but my kids, who'd never seen an episode and had no idea what it was about (beforehand I said, "Kind of Johnny English meets Inspector Clouseau"), thought it was hilarious. We laughed all the way through, and then kept laughing in the car on the way home.

Nicely done Steve Carrell!! He was perfect for the part.

Hmm. The critics for our local newspaper gave it only 2 stars. Or one star, I forget. That's not good.

Guess I'll have to judge it for myself.

OMG, I love it. Saw it today and I want to see it again. The TV show was so awesome, and I think they did a great job of bringing it into the 21st century. Steve Carell (whom I love in anything he does) was brilliant. Critics don't know what they're talking about!

Critics don't know what they're talking about!

There's a great review of the film in The Toronto Star where the reviewer basically says the same thing! http://www.thestar.com/entertainment/article/446463 I seriously don't get where the bad reviewers are coming from. I mean, the film isn't perfect, like I already said some of the jokes don't quite work, but in general it is delightful, and wonderfully lacking in toilet humour.

Okay.

There's a bit of toilet humour.

But it was funny.

I don't get why some critics don't like it either. On TV up here, one guy said The Love Guru was stupid and gave it 2 stars, then said Get Smart was not too bad and gave it 2[SUP]1/2[/SUP] stars. What? Half a star difference?

Then again, I think this particular reviewer has his head up his butt most of the time anyway. ;)

Well you'll see what they do with the characters in the movie. 86 isn't quite as much of an idiot as he is in the show. He's still bumbling . . . but . . . well it's really interesting.

Steve Carrell is genius here because he does his own version of the character, not Steve Carrell doing Don Adams being Maxwell Smart.

It's a new take on the character that really works well, IMO. I also think the critics got this all wrong.

I liked it. It's hard for me to laugh at comedies but I had quite a few laughs here. Steve Carrell is very good, and it helps that I really like Anne Hathaway. It's also nice to see the Rock not playing the hero for a change.

I have never seen the show so I can't compare. But I like what I saw in the movie. Agent 86 is not stupid at all -- he's Washington's best analyst! But he's a little clueless, and a klutz (although he can really dance), which makes him an unlikely field agent. That's why it's funny.

Ray buddy, you HAVE to check out the original series. Pure Mel Brooks/Buck Henry wackiness. :)

Yup. Great writing there.

In the TV show, Max was totally incompetent, though somehow he always managed to get the job done. They never explained how this complete imbecile became an agent. However, in the movie we have this backstory of him being a nerdy and obsessive but great analyst, which makes his clumsiness in the field perfectly plausible.

One of the best scenes, IMO. :D

Saw it last night, and couldn't stop laughing. Great writing and great casting. I think some critics should stick to critiquing serious dramas--I think some of them simply don't understand comedy at all.
