I can't find anyone anywhere that is or has written a novel that is both horror and romantic. My novel is very unusal as it is about a Vampire and a woman who meet, become friends and of course you know I'm not going to give away the rest of the plot. I have heard from Anne Rice and she told me that it sounds like a wonderful novel and to keep writing. If anyone else knows of any authors who have written such books, I'd sure love to hear about them. Thanks....silentwriter!

Do you mean other writers who've written about a relationship between a vampire and a human woman?

Pretty much the entire genre of paranormal romance contains both horror and romance elements. :) Our own book, Touch of Evil, received a number of recommendations for the Bram Stoker horror award from other Horror Writer Association members (just missed the short list by two votes. Darn!) But yeah, like December says, there's plenty.

The key element to have it placed on the romance shelf is that there must be a satisfactory ending to the book. Horror can end like Carrie, with everybody but one or two dying, but romance has to have its HEA to sit on those shelves.

Is that what you mean?

I don't think there is an actual catagory for romantic horror. I think they put all those type of stories under Intrigue, or Suspense, Supernatural. I know plenty of authors who mix horror in with their romances. A lot of Harlequin Intrigues are like that. But nothing specific under romantic horror. Someone told me I ought to try to push for a romantic horror catagory, but I don't think it will hold up as well. Those are the kind of stories I like to write. With lots of Horror but of course some steamy romance!

Let me add in:

Jim Butcher - One of the subplots in the Dresden Files has a vampire is hopelessly in love with a human woman. Since it is True Love, touching her will kill him. There is, so far, no cure. Oh, the angst! (Extremely well-written angst, then on to kick badguy ass.)

P.N. Elrod - Long running vampire PI series with horror elements, romance, and a happy ending; the hero totally in love with his lady.

Roxanne Longstreet - Don't let the AuthorHouse reprints scare you off, she's a hell of a good writer and writes the bestselling Morganville Vampires series (also horror + romance for a human-vampire couple) as Rachel Caine. She only went to AuthorHouse to with out of print titles because Lulu wasn't available back then.

And however cool it is to get props from Anne Rice, she's been doing her best to shed the Vampire Thing now that she's Jesus's Holy Ghostwriter. (You heard me saying it first.)

And of course, she's always been SO humble about her talent, too!

"Every word is in perfect place."

I'd suggest Anne Bishop. Though it might be closer to erotic horror + fantasy.

Thanks so much for the info on the authors. Yes I know that Anne Rice has dropped the Vampire stuff. Though I'm still interested in her writings. If you are interested, I have a new Webpage and just uploaded my first short story written 4 years ago. If you are interested I will send you the link to it. I am thinking of dropping the first two pages though and turning them into another Webpage with just my life info in them and leaving this Webpage for my short stories, poetry and/or part of my book! Put your stuff in the Share Your Work forum here. You'll have more feedback from a wider range of readers.

And I'm not a rice fan unless it's under some chow mein.

I found out that the genre is actually paranormal romance so I'm shooting for that. Checked out Harlequin, not sure if they would accept it though. I now have my own webpage which you can check out if you like as I put up one of my short stories yesterday on there and another one will be uploaded today: http://silentwriter1949.com (The Journey)...You may not want to read the first two pages as they only pertain to my life. Thanks for your reply. Phyllis

Find the right genre, open a new thread with an appropriate title, copy, and paste in whatever the page limit allowed for your excerpt. Don't put the whole thing up at once. 5-10 pages is enough.

Preview the post to make sure the formating is intact. Sometimes paragraph breaks are lost and you have to manually put them in.

Single-space, then double space between paras.

SPELL CHECK or that's the first thing you'll hear about.

The rules should be posted as a sticky note in the forum.

As it stands it sounds like a classic Paranormal Romance.
