I've been lurking for nearly a month now...I've decided to finally post.

I'm a former rebel journalism teacher who is now freelancing at home. (My students and I caused so much trouble in the name of free speech. Bless their hearts.) I'm editing for a start-up newspaper in Milwaukee and for a start-up website out of Seattle.

I'm working on a couple of articles as well (financing college and mommy-turned-cattle woman).

I used to work for the Wisconsin State Journal and The Capital Times as the newspapers in education coordinator and I've taught journalism at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater for the Kettle Moraine Press Association.

It's such a relief to find the Water Cooler online. I love reading your posts--especially the off-beat ones in the Office Party and Take It outside the Board. I'm learning so much from your posts on the Freelancing board, too. I know the academic side of journalism, but the practical, business side is new to me.

Thanks, Jenna, for listing this site in your freelancing book. And thanks as well for writing a book that wasn't dry and boring like the one I'm reading now. :sleepy:

My question is: when do you people find time to write? I'm so busy reading your posts that I forget I have this whole job thing I do...

Welcome, Diane! The answer to your question is simple. We're all skilled multi-taskers. We can write and goof off here, er, research, all at the same time. Glad you joined us! :welcome:

Welcome Diane!

Good question! I haven't gotten much done in the last 2 days, but usually I save this forum as a treat for after I've gotten some writing done. It's a balance thing. ;)

You mean we're supposed to write too?
Just teasing.
Welcome!

I have to limit myself to one hour of time online after work each day before I write. Then I write at least 1,000 a day (because I'm a newbie I am still learning the business of selling my writing so I don't have a larger word count per day). Once my writing is done, I play around on the 'puter some more if I feel like it. Usually I'm too beat and I just write my hubby a good night note (he works 2nd shift) and I head to bed.
:)Huh: You know, it just occurred to me that you really didn't need to know that much about me. Sorry. I can ramble.)

:welcome: Diane! I also try to maintain a balance and keep AW as a treat for when I've finished work and writing... and everything else:( . Don't you just hate it when work interferes with fun? Glad you're here and hope you find your balance!:D

Let's try this again...

I tried to come on here and give you a warm welcome once before, but my ISP's been acting weird these last couple of days and I wasn't able to post my message. So, in the spirit of the 'Title' line,

Let's try this again...:Smack:

Welcome to the Cooler Diane. It's good to have you with us, and I hope you enjoy the site!

:welcome:

Hello Diane. Welcome!

Posting at the Water Cooler is just as important as doing the daily writing.

Welcome to the boards, Diane! I start my day here, write some, visit it again around noon or so, write some more, grab the mail carrier when he delivers the mail and spend some time reading the junk mail (and going through the junk mail, turning it upside down, to see if one of my SASE's got stuck in there), write some more, then visit here again at some time in the evening, before my head crashes onto the keyboard.
:sleepy:

Now you know my life story. Anyway, welcome!
:welcome:

You have made me feel at home!

Thanks, everyone, for the warm welcome! I feel very comfortable here. What a nice place to spend some time...just not all my time! Must write, must write, must write!

There you go again, reminding me that writing is why I joined this board - not to chat with cool people. :Smack: Rats.
Guess it's back to work for this girl!

If feels a little strange to say hello after I've already bonked you (almost forgot the "k" there - yikes!). I'm still pretty new myself, and you can see by my number of posts that I'm *not* a skilled multi-tasker.

I use AW as a reward, kind of like recess :hooray:

Welcome!
Sarah
