In a submission letter, if I'm informing the editor that I have been published in another magazine, do I italicize or underline the magazine's name?

No argument intended, I'm just saying, I wouldn't mention publishing credits in a cover letter to a magazine. The editor's going to read and judge the story you've submitted, not what you've written previously. I'd just say, "Please find enclosed, for your consideration, <title>" and have done. Each to their own.

That is bizarre advice. Here's why: because editors are swamped with a tidal wave of manuscripts, and cover letters help them decide not only which ones to read first, but which ones to read themselves (as opposed to handing off to some intern). Every single query-advice book or website I have ever seen says to include your credentials (previous publications, MFA or similar degrees if any, etc.).
