Soooooo... a bit nervous about posting this here, since ultimately I dislike being... ah... spammy...

But I know a lot of writers sort of wonder about websites and blogging, and the best way to go about those seeing as one looks forward to having maybe a career in said field of writing fiction.

SFF writers being a very popular and in-touch-with-teh-tech examples. I certainly have aims towards writing SF and F professionally. Maybe it would be great to look at some examples from successful writers.

And the Hugo Awards are coming up soon. (Voting deadline: July 7th.) Which means top-notch writers, but unfortunately not many links to their websites or blogs, even on the official nominee lists (though there are links to free electronic editions of much of the fiction).

Thus I thought combining the two might be a good idea. Something like:
- Link to online electronic copies if possible (yes, they're all official)
- Links to hard copy buy links on Amazon
- Excerpts from nominated stories - Websites of the authors (links and thumbnails)
- Blogs of the authors (links and post excerpt)

To that end, I'm starting a short series called 2008 Hugo Awards Countdown. It's starting out with the short story nominees, and accelerating towards covering the rest.

Come take a look and let me know if there's something else I should add. It's early on and suggestions are welcome. :) Thanks!

the links work for me.

Funny that the Torchwood episode is the least sci fi-ish of the bunch, but it's one of the best. And the Blink episode of Doctor Who still creeps me out. (You know, at first I only clicked on the link because you mentioned Torchwood. Yeah, I have it that bad.)

Ava, maybe I'm doing something wrong, but when I click on your links, I get your blog. But the article area is blank white.

Basically, IE 5 has issues with my site that can't be resolved, because it can't deal with the Google search bar.

I'll try to find a way to deal with it, but if you use Firefox, it'll be fine.

Basically, IE can't keep its pants on for internet standards worth squat, and supporting every version of IE literally takes [-]weeks[/-] days per version. (Days is still bad.)

And I get to do this: http://samdevol.com/wordpress-troubleshooting-my-blog-looks-horrible-in-ie/
ETA: and experiment for hours in a browser I don't have access to except at work.
ETA: and the compliance patch doesn't work in my version of IE, so is likely not to work in yours, either.

Please use IE 7 or Firefox.

*hates IE with a passion because it makes web design a living nightmare*

Thanks, madderblue! :)

This series has been educational me for as well. I'd never looked at the Hugos before, and didn't think I'd look past the short stories, novels, etc; but the rest is an interesting look at what Fantasy/SF fans currently like.

Nevada, I keep thinking about looking into Torchood, but I haven't done so as of yet...
