My favorite is and always has been "My side of the Mountain" but you already have the author listed.

I can actually remember dreaming about running away and living in a tree somewhere lol

My Side of the Mountain was awesome.
Read it twice, along with the sequels.
In one, there was a note warning kids not to try running away and living in the woods like the character in the book. Many actually had done so.
Like you, I was tempted to, too.

the sophomores in my school were all caught up in a book called 'hatchet' i teach spanish so i am not sure of the author--just got my attention so many kids--many non-readers-- talking about one book and enjoying it. --s6

Hatchet I believe is Gary Paulsen.

I don't recall who wrote it, so they might be on your list already, but Julie of the Wolves or something like that. (Though it's been ages and ages since I read it).

Hatchet and Julie are awesome too. Each also have sequels, not quite as good, but still great reads for survival fiction fans. Thanks for the input.

Ahh, I'd forgotten about Scott O'Dell. (adding his name, up top)
His 1960 Newberry Award winning Island of the Blue Dolphin was a classic.
The sequels were pretty good, too.

The protag in Hatchet also had the crap freaked out of him,
after he ate chuck cherries that gave him you know what.

May just have to go back and re-reread these outdoor survival classics.
