I've done quite a lot of reading in the MG area, but I haven't actually read an awful lot of recent stuff. I'm embarking on my first attempt at writing an MG novel, and want to see what's out there as far as level of scariness goes. I'm not really looking for Goosebumps style ghost stories, more stuff like The Egypt Game where all the scariness is real-life, even if it may seem at times like there's something supernatural going on.
I'd love some recommendation of titles to check out that will give me an idea of how scary I can go.
