The Fog (1980) VS. The Fog (2005)

Which do you, if any like better? John Carpenter's The Fog or The Fog which came out a few years ago?

Personally I like the 1980 original...it's creepy without being creepy if that makes sense? With all the telephones ringing on their own, things "coming" to life and so on.

The 2005 re-make is well, somewhat of a different story but it was just too mundane for me.

Fog - 1980. That's not saying much, 'cause the 2005 version is beyond dismal, even for a horror remake.

the '05 was terrible. Honestly, one of the worst movies of all time. You might as well asked who'd win, Jogger vs Bullet Train going head on.

I agree, though I think you guys aren't being critical enough of the 2005 version.

I made it through about 10 minutes of the remake.

Superman, really? Are they kidding me?

Doesn't even come close to the original - Adrienne Barbeau giving the OnStar report of the fog movement "It's going north on Main. A left at Chestnut. Run!"

I made it all the way through the remake. When Welling's GF reincarnates as the wife of the leprosy ship's captain and vanishes with him--meh.

Actually, that's a good description of the whole movie: meh.

Yes the 2005 was WAY lame and it wasn't even scary. I mean the "ghosts" come on land during the day, that I remember...not in the original....

Honestly, the 1980 version is WAY creepy and soooo good...especially towards the end. Very intense.

Did you know that the character, Bennett (at the beginning) is played by John Carpenter.

Funny, but I thought when the original The Fog came out it was panned. I remember it as a dog simply because it had Andrienne Barbeau in it, but the new one must be excruciating horrible to make the first seem like a classic.

It was, but it's aged remarkably well. Because while horror films have got more and more flashy and less well structured, The Fog has slowly become a classic.

I don't mind Barbeau on screen. She's a decent B-/C+ actress.

If I want to watch something painful on screen, I can always turn on another Keanu Reeves/Kevin Costner movie.

Don't remind me. He was bearable in The Replacements (which I love) but I think because his character actually was a monotone, lumpish sports guy.

Keanu Reeves trying to fill Michael Renne's spacesuit?! I'll pause while you laugh yourself silly.

I've never seen the original, but the 2005 remake was a waste. It had potential, but the ending totally sucked eggs.

To be totally honest, I didn't care much for the original. It seems wildly overrated to me. So yes, it's better than the remake, but I prefer neither. Give me The Mist.
