Hi,

I am new here. I have been writing erotica for myself or for others. I am taking some of those stories and expanding them. I would like to get some of them published. What I want to know is it best to publish on sites like Literotica or Storiesonline, or try for magazines or books (i.e. anthology) first? Or what other options may be out there? Thanks.

What is the word count? Can you make a book of collected stories? Anyway, welcome to where you'll find a lot more useful ideas than I can give you.

I have written erotica and went to storiesonline but from what I remember there is EVERY type of erotica on there you can think of. Plus I didn't have a very good response either. As for the magazines, I'd stick with those :) but that's just me. Just search the magazines and see what their writing guidelines are...plus most of them (if not all) pay. :)

Hope this helps.

Ditto to what December Quinn said.

Make a list of the potential publishers for your genre. Rank them according to your priorities, which presumably include money and prestige (which includes professionalism and stability), and not according to how quick/easy the market's submission process is.

Start at the top -- submit to the best (however you define it) place that publishes your genre. If that one rejects you, go on to the next best publisher on your list, and so on until it finds a home.

EroticDiamond, it depends on how you think of being published. Do you just want them out to be read, to get feedback, or for you to get paid?

I have been writing on storyonline for some time. For quite a while, their readers have biased toward the extreme sub-genres (family orgy, violent sex, pedophile, etc.) You don't get nice response unless you enjoy doing these types, or you're extremely good. One story I've recently tried to read had a score of 9.44 out of 10 and I could only manage to read 4-5 paragraphs before I gave up. I'm an ESL writer/reader, so my English isn't fancy at all. If I can't stand it, it has to be pretty bad.

If you have shorties that you want feedback, I believe nothing beats the SYW Erotica subsection. Fish Tank is also a good place. On the other hand, if you want some general responses from readers, storiesonline or Literotica can be good starting points. If you can write short shorties that can arouse readers, you can also try Ruthie's Club to start with (they pay authors nominal monetary rewards.) If you can get paid by Ruthie's, you next step may be a collection or novel of your own, and go through the process December Quinn suggested.
