What is the most disgusting-looking food you've ever seen? And did you try it?

What is the least-appealing food you've seen, and did you have the guts to try eating it?

For me, it was this horrifying little roadside treat:

Balut, a fully-developed duck embryo still in the egg boiled and eaten whole, feathers and all.

And no, I did not try any although I think one day i may give it a go just ot say I did it. If you ever watch Bizarre Foods, you'll see him eat it but trust me, until you've seen them in person, you have no idea.

Liver. Not a lover of liver. Wrong texture. Wrong color. Wrong smell. Even with the poor, innocent onions that tend to be thrown on top of it.

It's a tie between sea cucumber (a.k.a. sea slug) and chicken feet.

I'm going to have to go with sea urchin sushi. It had little tentacles (or whatever they were) sticking out on either side and everything.

And yes, I ate it.

And quickly regretted it.

Foie Gras. Not the looks as much as the process of how it came to be. And no, I would never eat it.

Mopani worms.

Sorry, I just can't bring myself to eat grubs.
Bugs of ANY kind. No way, no how. I don't care if the world goes to hell in a handbasket and all the farmland dries up leaving us nothing but insects to eat. I will starve first.

I've heard of balut, but never had it and while in Iceland they had shark that had been buried in the sand for months, but never tried it either.

And I live next door to Minnesota where they eat lutefisk. Lye is a poison, no?

But I have had frog legs, ostrich, alligator, elk, squid, octopii, all sorts of shell fish, and yes, I do understand the lobsters/shrimp/crayfish are sort of related to bugs, just don't tell me that while I'm dipping the flesh in clarified butter.

It didn't *look* disgusting, but the live... and very much active... shrimp in the "drunken shrimp" dish in China was something I passed on.

Also chicken's feet - because I've seen where chicken put their feet, and there's no way that goes in my mouth. :)

a tie between freeze-dried mealworms (BBQ flavor) and headcheese. I tried both, and meh. They were OK, nothing I'd run out and buy again. Escargot, frog legs...now those were pretty good.

Something that looked odd was jellyfish - think clear gelatin - but it was actually somewhat crispy and very tasty in it's soy and sesame sauce...

Oh, yeah, snails, forgot about them. Yum.

And brains. I like to eat brains.

But I don't get the whole chicken feet thing. Is there even any meat on that? Reminds me of people who suck out fish heads. Ew. Stop. There's nothing worth eating in there!

Mmm... brains...

(where's that zombie smiley when I need it?) :D

Seriously, they were good. Though I could never figure out why something that came from a cow reminded me so much of pork. :Wha:

speaking of foods... how can goats smell so bad on the outside, yet taste so good on the inside?

That's just awful. I'm gagging now...
Good thing you didn't eat it.

It's huge there. In one of the cathedrals in Lima, they have a fresco recreation of the Last Supper, and Jesus is sitting down to a big old steaming plate of guinea pig. It's traumatizing.

Tripe. For my sins. Pale, rubbery chunks served without any sauce or seasoning whatsoever--this was in Dublin, in a family friend's home.

My mom seems to think Jab Chae looks disgusting. I don't. It's delicious! I'm hungry!
