Horror market question

Hey, guys! I don't write horror, as a rule---at least, not STRAIGHT horror. But I'd planned to attend World Horror in Salt Lake as a speaker (had to cancel at the last minute due to family illness), and was asked to contribute a story to the special anthology they were putting in the attendee bags. So I did. Apparently, it's gotten enough good reviews from people who attended that someone suggested I sub it to a paying market. I suppose it was a limited enough exposure that a mag MIGHT still be willing to buy first rights. But it's really long for a short. It's a Cthulhu-based story and weighs in at over 11K words (AFTER editing.)

Are there any markets out there for something that long? I'd thought about the HP Lovecraft Magazine of Horror, but I've heard that if it hasn't gone under, it's on its last legs. Does Weird Tales do long stuff? I'd like to shoot for a print mag first, before ezines. I'm the tactile sort.

Any help appreciated!

Have no news or help for you. But found it funny that you were going to speak at a Horror conv. and do not write horror. Am just an old person and sometimes it takes a bit to sink into this old brain.

Wonderful news about your story. I bet some on this horror site will have a perfect place for you to submit to. I have not done any submitting as of yet.

Cathy, I think Weird Tales is the perfect match.

According to Duotrope, they accept Novelettes up to 10,000 words. Ann Vandermeer is the fiction editor. I'd suggest you query her first. Given your writing chops, I'd be shocked if she wasn't willing to read it. And, if this is the story I'm remembering, I'd love to see it there.

Actually, I do write horror, but not straight horror. All of our books have horror elements---moments that scare the bejeebers out of readers. But they're not horror enough to sit on the horror shelf. (If that makes sense.)

But we were invited to speak because of the emerging horror/romance cross novels that we write, and the conference organizer loves our books.
