For example, I find myself saying "frack" a lot these days. For those who don't know, that's the way the characters say the F-word on Battlestar Galactica.

I also can't go on a canoe/camping trip without thinking of Deliverance. I make sure to stay out of the way of grizzly mountain men.

Hmmmm. The animated version of the Hobbit is the first thing I remember that made me really want to read and by extension, write. I remember seeing it on TV a long, long time ago.

Then there's the Farscape fansite, Terra Firma. If it weren't for that fansite, I wouldn't have found AW and gotten back into writing again.

Actually, the biggest real life impact from a movie I've had was from a (IMO) bad movie.

Ever see "The Cell" with Jennifer Lopez? A single image from that movie got my wheels turning, and that ultimately turned into me pulling out my trunked for a decade and a half novel and writing it over from scratch. If you go look at my book cover for the first book of Asphodel, you'll be able to see what image that was.

Ended up making a huge impact on my life. Now look at me.

Since Jaws I don't like being in any water that isn't crystal clear. If anything brushes against me, I have an immediate panic attack.

When I started watching The Daily Show, there was a mercifully brief period where I would channel Jon Stewart. It was weird and uncomfortable. Someone would say something and I'd tell a joke building on it, but instead of sounding like me I'd have some Jon Stewart-esque mannerism or delivery thrown in there. I kind of realized it was going to happen after I opened my mouth, but couldn't quite stop it. My wife usually recognized the quirk from the previous night's show and gave me odd looks. Luckily, she finds me harmless, not insane.

Becuase of Jaws, I do not swim in the Ocean. Period! Only go in waist high.

Phrases from the wrestling turn up frequently. Because Mummy said so, and that's the bottom line! Or I want you to take that thought, shine it up reeeeal nice, turn that sumbitch sideways and shove it up your candy arse! When I had my daughter, afterwards I told my hubby to 'Know your damn role, and bring me tea!' Ricockulous is one of my fave alternate swearwords.

I like winding up my hubby by saying 'Sure do got a purdy mouth.' Which always freaks him out.

I found myself saying 'Shiny, let's be bad guys.' the other day when I was writing and the MC was gonna kick butt

Oh and it was The Brave that started me writing.

I watch my DVDs of House whenever I need inspiration for snarky dialogue. I obviously don't use their lines, but that show clicks my brain into the right track.

You could say Star Wars changed my life forever because when I was 12 I became a complete addict and spent the next 5 years of my life devoted to science fiction and fanfic. My first fanfics were Star Wars, and that was where I did my "teething" as a writer. When I started getting good enough at fanfic that I had a following, I switched to writing my own stuff.

Gargoyles, the animated show? I was in high school when I first saw it, and it got me hooked on Shakespeare. Now I'm all smart because I read Shakespeare.

My 6 year old daughter now says "Happy times" after hearing my husband periodically say it (from Borat). Makes me laugh.

I do say frak. but a lot of impact for me is short lived. I know that when i see a really good action movie, I walk differently. With attitude, like I'm daring someone to try and kick my ass. I also drive more aggressively after an action movie.

I say Shiny a lot. Only because it's really appropriate to the way I think.

There's too many to name that affect me in everyday life. I mean, most things I see/hear/do I compare to movies or TV, I have an insane memory for stuff of that nature.

As for the stuff that affects my writing life:

Star Wars made me want to be a writer.

seaQuest made me want to write a hacker character.

The Matrix gave me the seeds of what eventually turned into my 'verse.

A lot of movies/shows also help because I look at them as "what not to do" - like Chloe on Smallville, I love the character, but her hacking abilities are a kind of godmod in the later seasons - when I have a character hack something, it takes a believably long amount of time.

The X-Files made me totally paranoid about the government.

Star Wars made me think I could be a jedi for a while. Even now I try to use the force when I'm lazy. Never works.

Death Note made me hold things with the tips of my fingers, sit strangely and speak in honorific Japanese because I wanted to be like L.

TV shows that made a huge impact on me - and still do would be Star Trek (original series with Shats and co) and Coronation St - I love the accents and the acting is superb.

Number one movie of all time for me and one that makes me want to create something wonderful everytime time I watch it is Shine.

How about all cool movies.

My family has developed an entire metaphoric language based soley on movie scenes and dialogue.

It's funny when friends or 'outsiders' are with us, they miss half the 'true' meaning behind our comments which almost always have dual or triple meanings.

For instance, we were having a barbeque and one of my mom's friends asked my little brother (who was in high school at the time) what he wanted to do after he graduated. My brother turned to her and said, "I want to be a big bright shining star". My mom's friend couldn't understand why I almost died laughing while my mother smacked my brother in the back of the head.

But if you've seen Boogie Nights, you know what that means.
