Greatest TV detective of all time

Okay everyone, cast your votes on who (whom) you think is THE best TV detective of all time.
I would have made a poll so that everyone could actually vote, but I decided not to because I knew that I would forget and leave out someone's favorite great TV detectives.

Also - TV series detectives only.

For the record though, Jim Rockford (The Rockford Files) is THE greatest TV detective of all time.

If you disagree with me, that's okay, but you are wrong.

I'm hoping George Smiley counts.

Yes, he's not a detective by profession. But in both TV adaptations he did a fair amount of detecting. Besides which, I think its Alec Guinness's best role.

Either Monk or Dtve. Goren from Law & Order: Criminal Intent; Haven't watched Colombo, though. Government thinks is too edgy and only shows it Sunday at midnight

Honey West, Harry-O, and Rockford for us Yanks.
Poirot and The Helen Mirren Detective for the Brits, with at least a dozen runners-up across the pond. Gambon did a decent Maigret too.

I did watch a few of the helen mirren detective shows when i had tv. she was an intriguing character. always figured that if phillip marlowe had a sister she would be the one to cast---s6
