here's a list of his locations for the publisher-sponsored book tour:

http://us.macmillan.com/Tour.aspx?id=51&publisher=torforge

why should we all go to this if we can?

1) cory is an awesome writer/activist worthy of our support.

2) publisher-financed promo expeditions are rare and supporting them is a good way of making more of them happen.

He is totally amazing. I saw him speak and read last week, and had the privilege of then interviewing him for that website I mentioned here a bit ago. He is incredibly bright and the way he looks at the use of technology is eye opening. If you get a chance, totally totally check him out!

He is indeed a great speaker. I had the opportunity to have dinner with him several years ago. If you have one of his appearances nearby, it's worth the trip to see him.

Cory's lovely. Little Brother is a lot of fun. And Cory gets really into it when he reads. Go see him if you can, seriously.

:hooray:

Is he any relation to E.L Doctorow?

Cause, at the risk of getting heavy objects and spears thrown at me...I can't stand E.L Doctorow.

But Little Brother looked awesome, though ^_^

I don't think he is.
At any rate he's nothing like EL Doctorow.

(Oh and, if you see him, tell him you've heard that his Clarion 2007 class was spectacularly awesome :tongue)

He skips right over where I am... closest is an 8-hour drive. :(

But I do enjoy reading him immensely.

He's not coming down to us either. Clearly what we should do, sir pete, is meet up in the middle and go see him in Berkeley :)

ETA: not that I can, since I'm leaving for WisCon on the 22nd. But it's what we'd do in an ideal world.

Echoing Shweta - Cory is awesome. His book is a fun read (he gave out printouts at one of his readings) and he reads well.

And yes, he's nothing like EL Doctorow, whose work didn't do much for me either.

Oh, and the book is not just an adventure. It ties into the whole freedom of speech and Patriot Act and stuff - but in a fast-paced, adventurous way.

Definitely go see Cory if you're anywhere near one of his appearances! You might want to bring your own copy of one of his books, just in case the venue sells out! (Though you should also support independent bookstores by buying books while you're there. :) )

I downloaded the free .PDF just to see if I wanted to buy the darn thing.

Six hours later...

I give the book two hearty thumbs up with one big caveat:

His best book, stylistically and artistically, thus far is "Someone Comes to Town, Someone Leaves Town".

Neil Gaiman's quote about "Little Brother" over at Neil's blog really nailed LB.

If you go, can you do the world a favor and bring a webcamera, or a video camera, or mp3 recorder, or something, to upload any speeches to the web?

Cory's an exceptional public speaker, if his YouTube videos are any indication.
