What, if any, posthumous (sp) medal or award is a soldier likely to receive if he is killed overseas by an IED? Assume there are no outstanding circumstances - just a routine patrol that triggered the explosion.

I see a lot of Purple Hearts coming through the personal effects I photograph. Whether they were issued post mortum, I can't say.

Any medal or award he or she has earned.
Purple Heart, definitely, since it awarded for any wound.
