Don't be intimidated. I have found everyone here to be quite easy to talk to. Don't just follow along, either. Ask questions, because you never know how many others are thinking the same things...that's a great way to contribute! Also, there are lots of threads here that give you places to practice your skills and even get some critiques by some very knowledgable people. So join in, have fun, and keep writing! (does this sound like a sales pitch!?)

All of you seem pretty well rounded and knowledgable about the "Writing World." I don't know how much I can contribute to the discussions in regards to the ins and outs of the business.

Don't let us fool you! There are some honest-to-gosh writing pros here, yes. There are many of us just like you, too--we write, but we don't know that much about the ins-and-outs.

I know networking can be a scary thing. But, it is oh sooooooo necesary--on many levels "process" and "product" wise, in today's competitive publishing world.

You've taken the first step, now take a deep breath and relax and join in the fun---there are good people here willing to help you.

Welcome, Wendy! It seems I'm even more of a beginner than you are, since I don't even have a manuscript. So I make a few comments on the occasions when I actually know something and try to ask when I don't. I've found this is quite a friendly place. I hope you enjoy your stay, and good luck with your book!

That alone is reason to be proud, whether it is accepted or not.

Don't worry about what you know or don't know. If you know something that will help, speak up. If you don't know something, stick around and you will learn it

As Robeiae said, asking questions is contributing, too. And you know what else you can do when you don't know what else to do to help? You can welcome the newbies

Ask questions. What's the worst that'll happen?

a) You'll get a blank look?
b) You'll get teased?
c) You'll get an answer you don't want to hear? or
d) you'll get an answer you really needed to hear?

One way or the other, you'll get an answer. And that's why we're here. Even those who've been doing this for a while still have questions.

Welcome aboard, Wendy!

We're all harmless, to mostly harmless. And the people here are really great! You'll make friends here with people who are at all stages of the profession, and they're very helpful.

If it's any consolation, I was pretty nervous when I started here, myself. I think I spent more time -under- the couch, than on it.

But with the help from the people here (especially Mac!), I finally sent off my very fist submission. If I can do it, anyone can!

Join in on the Weekend Progress Report, and get -alot- of encouragement, if you want.
