So what happens when you're self-banned? Is it just something you write on your profile to let people know you've stepped out? Or is it something a mod can do to your account so you can't post? I think I need to put myself in time-out for awhile :)

Thanks!

From my understanding....just do not come in any more....

Several have self-banned and told folks about it first. Others just stopped coming by. I think that call is up to you. Am sure someone with more insight will be able to tell you for sure.

Sorry to see you go.

Actually I think you can request the mods to ban you for a specific period of time if you want.

Not that I would ever want. I think I would die if I couldn't feed my addiction. ;)

LOL Jo! I am really debating this right now because I think I'd die if I couldn't feed the addiction, too! But then I think if I take a few weeks off to focus on finishing my WIP, I could get so much done. This place is like crack and I love it :D

ETA: but I'd be able to see it still, wouldn't I? I think if I could still see it (being a public forum and all) then it would defeat the purpose. Hell. ;)

someplace around here, anyone seen my keys?
Self-banned is something we super moderators and the Admins can do for someone who needs a little extra help staying away. Just PM one of us. Can be a day, a week or longer.

Jo's right. I asked one of the mods to ban me for a brief time when I had some stuff I needed to do and I couldn't keep myself away, lol.

I might do it again soon, too. *shrug*

Awesome to know, thanks, everyone! I am having the TOUGHEST time staying away. So I think I will have to do it, at least for a little while :(

OK. I'm going to do it. I'm checking into AW Rehab Center. Take care, I'll miss you all! *sniff sniff*

I made myself go away for a bit to focus on editing one manuscript and starting another. Just to count down on the distractions. I just wrote Self Exiled or something like that and didn't contact any admin.

So if we ask for self-banning and get it, don't we come back hooked on AW even more? Not to mention needing to get rid of nervous tics, get over that toenail chewing habit (since the fingernails are LONG gone) and we've missed our Silly Friday fix?

Yes, well, AW does keep us rather tied up. Sometimes to be a productive writer one just needs to crack the whip. Not that I'm advocating being handcuffed to any one project...

Someone should gag me now!

A friend of mine recently told me how to make a 'suicide pact' that is similar to self-banning, but with the help of a friend who has the same addiction. You each give the other person your password, then you both go in and change it. In other words, I would give my password to someone else and they would give me theirs. I would go into their account and change theirs to something that only I know, effectively "locking them out." They would do the same for me. It can be a temporary or permanent arrangement (if it were temporary, I guess that would make it more of a 'coma pact').

I stayed away for awhile, because life got so complicated, but I'm back now and loving it. It definitely is addictive, but if I left again I would put Self-Banned in the custom title like the OP did. :)
