I took a break from my book--I was second-guessing every word I wrote and edited--so it felt right to stop. But I started again early this morning and that felt good, so I'm back on it. It's hard to gauge my progress because I'm editing and adding in new writing, but I am going to make a fresh start on 500 words per day. I think if I can keep the mental and physical distractions at bay I could be finished in about three months.

Next!

I think 500 words a day is a good, achievable goal.

600 words last night before realizing that it was a bit too much of an info dump. That's fine. The info will now be sprinkled throughout the next chapter or two instead.

Finished a scene yesterday and finally had a breakthrough on how to start the next scene. Sometimes I just have to write up to the scene to discover where to go next.

Still around, still trying to get the persnickety re-outline done, but overtime and such are eating up most of my time just now.

Got a little done over the weekend. I pulled out my sketchbook and colored pencils to block out the action scene I'm about to write, so I think I have a better idea of what the estate looks like.

I'm off to see my writing group now. 3-4 hours of talking literature and discussing writing, oh joy. Wonder what they make of this part of my story. I wasn't all that sure about it, so it's nice to get some feedback early on, does it work or not. I love my writing group, I do. :)

*pouts because my writing group died with a whimper last month*

But wow am I wailing on a short story! 800 words yesterday, and woke up realizing that it's too sweet and slow and I have to ramp up the squick sooner. ::rubs hands in glee::

Just over 200 words because I spent time editing and researching (to no avail). Having one of my betas is coming over for dinner with her code monkey boyfriend (yay for people who fix your computer in exchange for food!) so I am unlikely to get much writing done. Does talking about it count? ;)

Short story's out of my system. 3500 words and 3 revisions in 2 days. *whew*

When the muse brings out her cat o' nine tails, it's a good idea to obey.

Now I can return to my vampire book, which honestly will seem like a sweet romance after that!

Wrote another page at lunch yesterday. Still slow going, but I think I figured out another way to motivate myself. Last night I splurged and bought myself an MP3 player, so I spent the evening going through my CD collection and transferring music. I figured out the perfect soundtrack theme to the scene I'm struggling with, and I had a great time rediscovering songs I had forgotten about.

400+ words last night, despite dinner with friends. Now for the half-finished chapter I abandoned in favor of the one I finished...

Nothing written today, but a conversation at lunch is sparking an idea for the May SF/F Challenge. It's a little dark, but it's in keeping with the rest of the events in my novel universe.

:Sun: and :poke:, everyone. How's everyone else doing?

I'm swamped with work and approaching deadlines and haven't had time to sit down with my wip for a few days now. I'm doing a lot of translation at the moment, which just kills my arms and shoulders, for some reason, making it painful to hold a pen to write in the evenings. Glad it's over soon!

Good going, those of you who manage to find BIC-time! :)

A couple of scenes added to the outline. This is going to look nothing like the original when it's done.

Oh, and one of my normally pretty reserved characters called another character a flippin' idiot. :D Of course that phrase doesn't fit the world, so I'll have to find another good one she can use.

I'm about halfway through writing something for the SF/F challenge. I should hopefully be able to finish the first cut tonight and have something ready for posting this weekend.

Feels good to be producing something again. I'm discovering I need to take a break from editing now and then.

1,537 today and another chapter finished. Whew! Now if only I was sure it didn't suck. I think my MCs have to have fun in the next chapter. Hmmmm.
