Hi there! First off, let me just say how much I enjoy this message board! I'm a freelance writer and work from home so I don't have much human interaction these days. It's tough, even though it's always been my dream.
What I'm working on these days... Well, I've taken a round about route to get where I am today. I've had various jobs in various industries but always in a writing capacity of one kind or another. My last job (in house) was as a ghostwriter for a doctor. I got married and moved across the country and she didn't want to lose me so she hires me freelance now. It has always been my dream to branch out on my own and this just sort of forced me to do it. It seems like I have more work now than I ever did when I was at her office and that's great... and overwhelming! Setting my own hours means that I often times am neglecting everything else around me and giving 150% instead of the "in at 8am, out at 5pm" that I did before I left her office.
Today I am working on two non-fiction health related books for her (just in the proposal stage at this point) and a couple of monthly columns that *she* pens for regional magazines. I also write a quarterly newsletter, monthly catalog/zine for alternative health products, product flyers and misc. articles when she ventures out into the land of medical journals (once every few months or so). I occasionally write scripts for tv and radio appearances, although I don't know why because she never sticks to them, and lectures that she gives around the world. I constantly reflect on how fortunate I am to be in this situation, but my husband is always quick to remind me that hard work and a little skill probably has something to do with it, too.
In my dreams- the ones not realized yet- I want to be a mystery writer. I've read every mystery under the sun and started when I was old enough to read the back of a cereal box. I find it really challenging and scary and lack in motivation sometimes. It's easy to put it off when I have so much paying work to do. But one day...
I'm looking forward to finding some pals on this board and gathering as much of the great info and insight available on here as humanly possible!
Cheers!

Though I'm very new to this forum, I've found it a great way to break the isolation of working from home (okay, it's also a really, really good way to procrastinate
