Home - but for how long?
This landed in my in-box this morning. Sounds right for you all in here. I believe she is genuine but I don't know. Please check!

"I have an announcement and call for submissions: I am looking for
HISTORICAL ROMANCE. Feel free to submit a query in this genre if:

- You have a completed manuscript and ideas for sequels
- It takes place in the U.S. somewhere between 1800 and 1930
- It's REALLY good"

She seems to rep mostly Christian stuff...maybe cross post in that forum too? (don't know if that's allowed)

(from her Bio)
"...serving Christian authors in all their creative endeavors. I offer standard representation in Christian publishing as well as the general market, "

Hmm... little concerned. I can't find any mention of sales under her name or the agency name at Publisher's Marketplace, and she isn't on the RWA-eligible list of agents. But if it's her FIRST time acquiring romances, that could be the reason. But I am concerned about her lack of sales at Publisher's Marketplace, and the fact that the first thing that shows up on Google under her name is a manuscript editing business called The Word Studio.

It's quite possible she has the contacts to sell books, after having edited for various Christian houses (according to her site). But I'm a little concerned.

Anyone have any more info about her sales in the market (either Christian or ANY market?)

She says she used to work as "Senior Developmental and Acquisitions Editor with NavPress". NavPress is a pretty long-established and very reputable Christian publisher. Some of her other contacts are pretty impressive too - especially Nelson and Zondervan.

From what I gathered from her bio, she's only recently started working as an agent rather than an editor which would explain why you can't find any info about sales.

I don't know, obviously, but it does all sound genuine to me. I do know a little about the Christian publishing world and those are some big name hitters she's claiming contacts with. Selling historical romances? Well, you might be taking a risk, but even an agent has to start somewhere, don't they?

She just attended the Pike's Peak Writers Conference, and I met her there. She seems professional, although we didn't discuss much, given that her emphasis is the CBA market. But she tells me she sometimes has more mainstream women's fiction material as well. Indeed, she has a varied background in both Christian and mainstream publishing, some as an editor, some in marketing or rights sales positions.

Time will tell if she's an effective agent, but I don't get the sense that she's a scam artist, at any rate.

If I were lining up agents to appy to ... I'd go to PM to list up the major agents and agencies. I'd look for the ones who represent best-selling authors in Romance. The ones who are making sales.

I'd try them first.
Then I'd work my way down to folks who've just hung out their shingle.

That said ... I know nothing about the inspirational market and it may work differently.
