Home - but for how long?
just in case anyone lurks here, and yes, I've posted it in the Romance thread.

http://cba-ramblings.blogspot.com/2008/04/conferencing-kindling-and-call.html

"I have an announcement and call for submissions: I am looking for
HISTORICAL ROMANCE. Feel free to submit a query in this genre if:

- You have a completed manuscript and ideas for sequels
- It takes place in the U.S. somewhere between 1800 and 1930
- It's REALLY good"

Defeatist!

That's what we're here for, to help you make it good.

Mind you there's been a dearth of the usuals down here, what with c.e. and Puma heading for the westerns and Julie Thorpe and Past Midnight vanishing into the ether. I think that all the historical writers, bar me and donroc, have given up and stopped writing.

'Is there anybody there?' said the writer, knocking on the Historical Genre door.'

I've recently posted new markets and a challenge and resources but no one replies or tries!

Sigh!

I was kidding - I don't have a completed historical romance up my sleeve and if I did it wouldn't be set in the US. It would, however, be jolly good!!

I've been working on a romantic short story and not a lot else lately (other than my PhD, obviously). I've noticed it's been quiet around the historicals. I know c.e. is getting back to Sparta so maybe she'll be around a bit more.

LOL, pdr - I only ventured over to westerns for a little ghost story that was a fun change of pace. I've been busy polishing up my Gettysburg short, which I'm very happy with now, thanks to your great help and my writing group's help in the story's earlier version. So the reason I haven't been around is that I HAVE been writing, not the opposite! I think that's the same for Past Midnight at well.

So I'm back in Sparta and very happy about it! I'll be around a bit more now. I miss this place! But I hope to not get distracted with another short story until I finish my first draft of my novel.

And you know the May challenge in western is a mystery - 2,500 words - and there's a contest at the end of the rainbow with a decent prize. I know, I'm just trying to corrupt you. But, everyone in historical is invited to check out the guidelines in SYW western.

Yes, I have drifted away from historical, but I do still watch what's going on. My historical novel is in the final proof stages before going to the printer for release about August 1 (small press) and my collection of shorts isn't back from the contest I submitted it to - so I've been working on my two contemporary novels - querying one and chomping at the bit to do final edits/rewrite on the other - and in between developing a collection of western shorts to play with. Geez, I think there's much to learn about this site.
I'm not a romance writer, though there's romance involved... and I'm not writing 19th century, and not in the US... and even worse, the really good... hmmm... can I still apply?

I'm still around, although not as frequently as I used to be. I've had some recurring typing-related problems and have been trying to wean myself from non-essential computer use. Am currently querying my epistolary novel and am in the middle of something new. I keep eyeing that unedited NaNo novel (beastly thing just gazes at me, challengingly).

I do appreciate the challenges and markets, pdr, but (honestly!) I just can't seem to get short stories to work for me. Don't mind me, I'll just keep plodding away at these tangled explorations that I call my novels...

That which is lost is found.

Ah, there you all are.

Been feeling like a voice in the emptiness and wanting to quit the whole board. So little time and so much to do and perhaps time on AW would be better spent writing.

No, you must stay, pdr! Please? Now that you've rallied the troops, you should stay and share in the fun! We just have to spend our time wisely, right? And not forget about our WIPs. If you try to leave I'll send my Spartans after you, and you know you can't argue with them!

Nice to 'see' you again!

BUT
I need to work out how to use my time. There's just not enough for all the writing tasks I have to do, and then there's the end of the work contract, finding a new job, and moving all over the globe again.

Don't leave, pdr. We need you.

I'm still around, although current WIP is not historical.

Historical romance? Sounds like my marriage. At least the history part.
