GOOD! When I'm eligible, I might just apply after all.

This is a good day for the pixel-stained technopesants among us (not that I'm actually eligible for the SFWA or anything, but still). Best luck to Russell Davis in turning the organization around and getting it headed towards the twenty-first century.

:hooray:

Much relief and gladness here. I might want to join SFWA after all, if I can just sell two more pro-level short stories sometimes soon...

And badducky, you scared me, I thought you meant AW membership there and was wondering if I missed you getting ready to flounce!

Someone did a write-in for Orlando Bloom as Treasurer?

Did you see the others? Spiro Agnew, Angelina Jolie...
But I did wonder if the Orlando Bloom write-in was an AWer

Flounce?

If I ever ride out into the sunset, the smoking remains in my wake will be vastly more macho than anything resembling an ornamental appendage of a woman's skirt.

In other news, I'm not surprised by the 53 votes for Andrew Burt. As much as we may disagree with him, there are plenty of folks who think he's done some good work, and aren't on-line enough to keep track of the latest e-crisis, meriting immediate and severe blogging(!). I'm sure he's a pleasant enough fellow in person, if we ever meet.

Regardless, I actually wish I had voted for Angelina Jolie. Wouldn't *that* be an interesting conversation with her business manager.

"I'm on a plane to Darfur to do UN Mission Work in between my hectic film schedule with my kids and Brad Pitt... Oh, the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America want me to be their President-for-life? Awesome! Screw those UN orphans! I'm going to WorldCon!"

That, or WorldCon Darfur!

Funny flouncing should come up. I asked elsewhere if Burt was planning to "flounce off Absolute-Write-Newbie-Style" over this. But since I'm not a member, I don't get to know what he said on the SFWA members-only forums and whether or not he's flouncing (I've got a spare boa I don't need, though, if that's what's keeping him).

I totally don't know this guy and I'm nowhere near knowing anything about SFWA politics--all I know about this situation is what I heard from Scalzi and Livejournal. There's really no reason for me to actually care, beyond the vague hope that SFWA will still be in existence and relevant by the time I qualify to join. But this is some tasty, tasty shadenfreude pie I'm snacking on here, I must say (I'll pixel-stain your technopesant wretch).

Ha!
My husband read that to me from Scalzi's blog, and the response, and I wondered if the poster was an AWer :D

Let's note, though, that the pixel-stained technopeasant wretch thing was actually a Howard Hendrix line, and Hendrix is a nice guy who has a much more reasonable, subtle position (though IMO still wrong) than has been represented online.
And is, in any case, not Andrew Burt.

I wish I could be at the level of caring.

But interesting nonetheless...
