writers block, frustration, boredom...all of the above....one in the same...I dont know

All I know is so often when I should be working (not on my WIP, but on the articles) I just cant be bothered. I sit down and tell myself I really should - need - to do this...and then I end up doing something else cos I am fed up and annoyed and frustrated.

I really need to get out of this rut...I really need to get my groove back...any suggestions :(

The word should is an evil magic word. It seems like a perfectly nice, reasonable word until you realize that it has an evil secret meaning: should means probably won't.

So instead of thinking that you should, ask yourself whether you want to. I'm much more likely to do stuff I want to do than stuff I should do.

True...

So the trick is to turn the should into a want.

One thing that sometimes helps me is to remember my reasons for making the commitment. I probably committed because I wanted something... money, exposure, to help people, to foster my relationship with the client, or some other good thing. And if I still want those things (and I usually do), that helps me to remember the want behind the should.

A related trick is to remember that I chose to do it, and at this moment I can choose again to do it.

I hate washing the dishes. Sometimes I silently grumble about "needing to" do it. Other times I remember that I do it so my wife can relax. I remember that I chose this, and I'm choosing it again now, for a purpose I care about. "I choose" feels a whole lot better than "I should."

It doesn't always help, but sometimes.

AW. A very nice place!
making work on a WIP a habit helps too. Just make a point of putting in a certain amount of time each day to work on it, possibly at some particular hour too, e.g. from 6-7:30am. After awhile it'll become automatic and much easier to sit down and do what you need to do.

well..I discovered the blog thread....so I have started taking part there so that I am accountable. I post that I am going to go to the work that way I feel I guilty if I don't, cos I have published that I am going to. Then I post again when I have completed.

So far so good...
