I see folks from this publisher hanging out at #SFFpit today, but I can't find any information about the press other than its twitter account. They don't seem to have a website. Anyone have any information? I assume they are brand new and not even open yet, based on tweets.

Possibly related (based on tweets) to Elderflower Press, which also doesn't seem to have a website.

It means, "I want NA. Send to me and I'll decide if it's what I want."

I believe NA is short for New Adult.

Which is an age category older than YA of disputable ages (college-aged? mid-twenties? 18-30?) that focuses on early adulthood. It's mostly dominated by the romance genre, but there are some attempts at expanding to other genres.

(Never considered that the question was "what is NA?")

I know what NA is; thanks. My question still stands: what is "a beautiful NA?" Romance? Fantasy? What constitutes "beautiful?"

I believe that they're newer. Looks like they aren't actually open to submissions yet unless someone from there favorites a SFFpit tweet. That's what I've gotten from their Twitter page at least.

It's the same sort of thing as when an agent says they want beautiful writing and a plot they can't put down and characters they won't forget. It's them talking about what they want in a way that reads to us as, "I want a good book," which basically means, they'll know it when they see it.

Lakewater Press

Just found this on Twitter. Their website is pretty sparse. They only have 2 authors and the website says they're closed to submissions. However they're posting that they're participating in PitMad on Thursday. Anyway no idea if these guys are legit or not. Just thought I'd start a thread giving a lot of people do PitMad. Anyone have any more info?

Not here, but there
They're all authors with no professional editing under their belts. That's somewhat of a red flag.

Yep. And a site that can't say what they're publishing makes me think their company is rather inchoate as well. YMMV.

Just found this on Twitter. Their website is pretty sparse.

Still a very bare site. Their acquisitions editor is supposed to be talking about their two new authors, but it takes some digging to find that... ahhh, it's the Stealth Menu version of WordPress. Urgh.

Last time I checked in with them, they didn't even have a website, so it appears they've made some progress.

Initially not finding anything more than two posts when I go direct to the Lakewater Press site... but if you start from the Lakewater Press FB page, then you get more links back to their main [non-FB] site that aren't obvious. Thought that they are using FB's interface primarily, but they weren't.

If I hadn't noticed that dratted little mini-menu, I would've thought their main site remained barren. Not a great plan to make it harder to find info on the website... Had I been a prospective customer, I would not have bought from them.

Authors and freelancers are generally more dogged about seeking info, but there is a point we stop.

Hi everyone,

My name is Kate Foster and I'm the editorial director at Lakewater Press. I appreciate your concerns about Lakewater, there are so many terrible stories of authors who've been stung by small presses claiming this that and the other, but not following through. Lakewater Press, however, is not one of these.

We are a brand new boutique traditional publisher accepting both agented and non-agented submissions. We do not charge fees, we pay good royalties, we're small and personal, honest and transparent, and we're prepared to learn and grow with every new day and author we sign. We're author first, so our aim is to nurture every writer we sign, and work hard on growing both their writing and their platforms. Each of us here is an author with good connections, so we can bring personal experience and knowledge to the table and put ourselves in our authors' shoes. I am a professional freelance editor, and although I can't boast of ten years at Harper Collins and fifteen years at Bloomsbury, I have solid experience, a successful record, good close working relationships with my authors and am confident, constructive and professional in my approach.

Lakewater Press is an e-book and POD publisher, but with a healthy marketing budget for each author. With a PR specialist as part of the team, every author's marketing plan will be bespoke and targeted for the category and genre of their books. But again, we're ready to evolve and change direction if necessary.

I won't babble on too much more here, but please please, if you have any questions about who we are and what we do, our lines of communication are always open. We're on Twitter, FB and our email address is [email protected]

So, please get in touch. Thank you.
Kate
