Hi! I'm Allison; I grew up in Wisconsin and I've lived in Beijing for 9 years. Happy (soon to be) Year of the Snake, everybody! I worked in animation for years and now I'm writing full time. A novelist friend told me about AW and I'm stoked to begin learning my way around!

I read everything, fiction and non-fiction, and have a soft spot for horror and all ghost stories. Pleased to meet you!

Welcome aboard.

The one place you want to avoid is "The green green grass ..." on the humor forum.

Hello Allison and welcome! Have you ready any Ghost stories by Stacia Kane? She is a member here. I started reading one of her books and it might be something you would enjoy!

Hello, and welcome! I'm a snake, so hopefully this will be my year. :)

Tepelus, don't overthink this just: wear red underwear for the month of Februrary! The year of the snake starts around Feb. 12th (with the Chinese New Year festivities), and when it's 'your' year it actually sets up a small clash in your astrology chart. My eldest daughter is a snake too (born 2001), so I'm buying her red underwear, red socks, and a sort of belt made of red thread and little jade snakes.
I'm as superstitious as an old peasant lady, but even 'normal' people wear red underwear when it's their year--the color red protects you from evil spirits! Just do it : )

Hey Saul! Where in the Bay Area? I lived in Berkeley for a year, during the governor recall! Do you remember the signs that read "Friends don't let friends vote for Schwarzenegger for governor"?
Nice ta meetcha too!

Thank you for the tip, Rbrown, I'm intrigued! Maybe I'll see you on the horror boards?

I write fantasy, but love a good ghost story. Also I live in Japan, home to some of the best horror films ever set to reel (Ju On, Ringu, etc).

Welcome from one new member to another :hi:

Welcome from one new member to another :hi:

Gasp!! Zoro, I lived in Tokyo for 4 years ('98-'03), wait that's five years--nevermind. Where are you and how long have you been in Japan? I actually watched Ringu--alone, in a dark apartment--when it was on TV in'98, having no idea what I was getting into. Now it's one of my all-time favorites!!
Let's compare notes!

Let's compare notes!

I'm in Nagoya, and have been here about six years now. I don't get to Tokyo much. Last time was on a trip to Chiba for Disneyland/Disney Sea with my wife.

Ringu alone in the dark...you are a very brave individual :). It's one of the creepiest/scariest movies I have seen...and I love every minute of it :) . But, it could be said I scare somewhat easily. Which just might make my love of horror seem a little strange.

I even remember a bunch of years ago playing a ghost themed Playstation game, of all things, (Crimson Butterfly - again Japanese) alone in the dark. I spent the entire night looking over my shoulder behind the couch as I played, checking to see if a ghost was sneaking up on me :(
