It's Friday Tas. Skip the mimosas and head for the brownest of the brown liquors.

Welcome, Madderblue!

Tas, sorry about that. I'm sure you'll come up with something brilliant!

Whoa, it's three o'clock and no news. I wouldn't have been happy about that on Monday, but I'm feeling a bit lucky to have avoided the beginning-of-the-year bloodbath that has plagued others. Or have I jinxed myself (semi-on-purpose just to tempt the fates)?

That was some good self-jinxing! I just got a pass from an editor who says she has something similar on her list already.

No hugs required. Someone smack with a spatula to get me moving on WIP.

Oh my gosh, you guys are so friendly here in hell. No, really, had I known I'd have been here a lo~ong time ago, with glasses of ice water, too.

Woke up at four am because I had dreams about my inbox being chock full of news (good or bad). Alas...not even a lonely Viagra spam to get my hopes "up" *rimshot*. (Yeah, it's early, humor's thin.)

Tasmin, Kellion is right, it's Friday, you could spend the weekend doing anything and everything else (with book 2 percolating in the back of your mind) then dive in Monday.

I need to back read and see who everyone is and what they've written/are writing. ^-^

Oh, oh! Chaos, you'll never believe what Santa brought to me this Christmas. I'll have to take a picture of me with it. I'm going to start reading tonight. *excited!*

YA, I still think we should pool our loose change and hire someone to Tweet his every move during the day.

Thanks for the warm (sizzling!) welcomes. I look forward to hanging out here.

Hello, Kellion. Take solace in thinking that it's not YOUR book, but HER list. Soon, it will be your book DESPITE her list. Here is some encouragement with moving on your WIP this weekend. I am routing for better news next week.

Had a lovely phone call with The Editor, and I did not babble! I need to cut 10K. Eep. By mid-March. Eep. She had great suggestions about cutting and about planting a few more clues and tying a minor character into the main plotline better.

Eep.

Then they're going to have another vision meeting when I get the slimmed-down version to them.

ROFLMAO!! Oh man, that would be awesome! He's in the bathroom. He's walking down the hall. He's opening his email, but not yours.

Sometimes I wish he did tweet!

Okay that beats them telling you to beef it by 10k!!! You can totally do it!! But hey, if you need an excuse to buy an espresso machine, I'll vouch for you. But you have to make lattes for all of us!

Wait, who are you guys cyber-stalking?

Lily, yes, eep. I think I'd agree that it's easier to cut than pad though. I cut a lot out of RPT before we shopped it. Trying to remember but I think it ended up being about 10K.

Tas, glad you're feeling better about Book 2. I'm not doing a series so my next book basically has to meet with Agent's approval before going out, and that has me nervous enough.

Sigh.

Is it time for a Next Next Circle of Hell?

I will absolutely make lattes for everyone. I love to feed people.

All right, HC said it and now Lisa. I'll start a Next Next Circle thread. Give me a few minutes to come up with a title.

Hullo new hellions! Not a whole lot of news on my submission, but I did get two photos accepted on tastespotting, a website dedicated to food porn photography!

If you click through, mine are the Millionaire bars and the Potato rolls under the usename longdistancedrive. Exciting for me, a hobby baker/cook. :D

I bought Three Days to Dead at B&N last weekend. So far so awesome! The funny thing is, I couldn't find it on the shelf, and had to have them look it up. The computer said it was supposed to be on a "triangle" rack near the SF, that said "Page Turners" at the top, but it wasn't there either.

So the B&N lady finally found it—on a vertical display AT THE FRONT OF THE STORE! So I went from feeling sorry for Chaos to filthy stinking jealous!

How cool is that, to have your amazing "page turner" right in front of those tables, dead center in the front of the store!

Oh, YA, I love that, "He's opening e-mail, but not yours." On second thought, that might not be a good idea. "He looked at your synopsis, shook his head, sighed, mumbled to himself, and moved it to the bottom of the pile." Eeeee~!

Callalily, that sounds like a productive phone call. I'm glad I'm not the only one who has a tendency to babble ;) And did Lee say expresso machine? Did you say lattes?

Someone should really write a book about the circles of hell (ala Dante) in the publishing world. Starting with your very first submission all the way to dealing watching movies made from your work that totally suck. It would be hilarious.

Ouch! How much of the total manuscript is that? I'm sure I'll have to cut quite a bit if I ever get a book deal. Hmm, maybe I should have cut before I submitted? Oh well.

It's 87K right now, more or less. But they gave one definite chunk they want slashed, and I can totally see lots of cuttable stuff there.

Not starting these till tomorrow, though. Fresh day, fresh coffee, fresh printout. I like editing on hard copy.

Lily, so 77K is fine with them? I generally tend to write longer (in the low/mid 90s) and I don't think my WIP is going to get anywhere close to that. It's at 66K plus and I don't see it getting much above 80, if it even gets that far. Where do you think the low end of acceptability for your book would be, word-count-wise?

Not sure what minimum would be, Lisa. Production put it into their template and I think the cutting is partially because I'm a debut. Financial risk parameters and all that. Hey, I worked in marketing for years. I know about ROI and all those icky acronyms.

I'm a publication whore. I'll cut and add and rewrite. With a smile.

I hear 'dat. Cost of paper and all. On my end I'm a little concerned with writing a shorter book after debuting with a longer one, but I don't know if that's really an issue or just something new for me to be paranoid about.
