What do I do? What do I do? OMG OMG OMG *pees* My first offer of any kind. Aaaagh.

I emailed him a few minutes ago, and got a reply almost instantly requesting the first fifty pages via snail-mail. I'm going to send it out first thing in the morning. Should I overnight it? (I live in CT and the agency is in NY). How should I send it? What should I write on it? How do I divide up the chapter numbers? OMG help me!

THANK YOU so much to everyone who put me through query hell. It's my latest query that got me this offer. Thank you thank you thaaaaank yoooou.

ETA: Thanks! Eep. I'll update and let you guys know what happens. He seems like the type of agent who gets back to people ASAP (he requested 50 pages within 20 minutes of my query - I didn't even think that happened), so check back!

OK - First thing is stop peeing!

Second - he requested it via e-mail, so you don't have to overnight it.

It's very exciting, isn't it. Good luck!

He requested mine over snail mail, too. Annoying. ;)

Don't overnight it--he won't be able to get to it for at least a few days anyway. Start each chapter on a new page. Include a copy of your original query. Write REQUESTED MATERIAL on the front of the envelope. And good luck!

Congrats! Your query is working! That means--keep querying, and don't accept an exclusive if anyone asks for the full. Go get 'em.

Congratulations!

I'd suggest sending it priority mail. The cardboard mailers are the perfect size for partials, the get there in just a few days, and they're not too expensive.

What do you mean by don't accept exclusive? What if only one agent requests it and nobody else is reading?

1. Cover letter
2. Email correspondence
3. 1st Fifty pages
4. SASE, SASE, SASE, SASE --don't forget it ;)
5. Write Requested Materials on delivery envelope!

I'd send it out Priority with Delivery confirmation and he'll get it Thur-Fri at the latest.

And Congrats!!!!!

If he didn't say he wanted an exclusive, all's cool! They usually state this up front.

Should I send a regular SASE, or one big enough to mail it back with his notes?

I was thinking just a manilla mailer (I think the post office only has bubbled... or there might be a flat one lying around the house, which is better?). Also, is it true that chapters should begin halfway down a new page? Or at the top? And sections within a chapter are divided by just a single # aligned left? Please help. I want it to be as professional as possible. :)

Just a regular envelope for sase.

Whichever way you send it, make sure there's no signature required.

I've seen in many places to put the chapters about half way down the page and use ### centered for scene/POV changes.
Hope this helps.
:D This is exciting.
