TRAVEL THRU HISTORY
http://www.travelthruhistory.com/index.html
publishes stories featuring the historical, archaeological, and cultural aspects of a destination. We also accept stories about literary journeys and exotic adventures. Stories should convey a strong sense of place so the reader can experience the destination.

HISTORICAL/ARCHAEOLOGICAL
Transport our readers to these fascinating places, explore the ruins. Travel should be a journey of discovery, which often is a journey back in time. Research details and make sure it is accurate.

CULTURE
Give a sense of the atmosphere, place and ambience, an insight into life in other countries and cultures. Don’t forget to put the people in your picture.

ART/LITERATURE
It’s fun to explore the lives of our favourite authors, artists, musicians. Take us on a journey down the roads they travelled, to the places they hung out in and got their inspiration. Provide some background information on them and perhaps a picture of them too.

EXOTIC ADVENTURES
Whether it’s a trek in the Himalayas or a camel ride on the Sahara, we want to be there with you. Make it as exciting as it was for you. And don’t forget to let us know the requirements (physical, etc) for such an adventure.

TRAVEL MEMOIRS
These are creative-non-fiction vignettes of your travel experiences. Why where you there? What did it mean to you? What did you learn from it?

FASCINATING CITIES
Take us with you as you stroll the streets of fascinating cities you have visited. Introduce us to the history of the city, the people, and the interesting places you visited there.

For all stories, well-researched content is a must. We want to smell the aromas, taste the food, explore the streets and hidden paths, and meet the people who call this destination home. Please provide a side-bar with destination or site information. Stories can vary in length from 500 to 1500 words.

Photos should set the scene, showing specific items of interest as they relate to your narrative. They should come with captions and photo credits. Your story should be accompanied by at least four jpg photographs of good computer quality, (minimum 300 dpi). Photos should be submitted as attachments, not embedded into your text document. NOTE: Do not send photos or graphics until we have responded to your query.

Previously published work is accepted as long as the author owns the copyright.

We are looking for new writers who want to establish their travel journalism careers. Please include a short bio and links to your travel blog or website which will be published along with the article.

We offer our writers a modest honorarium for articles we publish. Payment is made by cheque, money order or Paypal on publication. We purchase one-time right to print your story and photos. Published stories will be archived for six months to one year.

Submit all queries or include your article in the body of an email or as an attached text file to: [email protected]

BRITISH
Posted July 2008
Quaestor2000 Ltd <http://www.quaestor2000.com/faq.php> is seeking
submissions (in electronic form only) from historical novelists. We are
an experienced UK-based publishing services firm (see the following
links for recent projects: history, current affairs
<http://www.quaestor2000.com/pubservices.php?cat_id=3> , etc.; legal
<http://www.quaestor2000.com/pubservices.php?cat_id=2> ) now moving into
publishing on our own account. Alongside the more "stodgy" but
financially reliable business of scholarly legal publishing, we are
taking this opportunity to indulge our lifelong interest in historical
novels. We retain our solid financial base in service provision and
this, together with our experience and contacts, will hopefully give us
an advantage in establishing ourselves and our authors.

Submissions should be sent by email to [email protected]
<mailto:[email protected]> but we would ask that you read
our historical novel author guidelines
<http://www.quaestor2000.com/faq.php?cat_id=4> first. Please note that
this is in no way, shape or form a subsidy publishing or self-publishing
initiative, so normal royalties will be paid and production and
marketing costs will be borne by Quaestor2000. In return, we will be
selective in our choice of manuscripts and will expect to exercise a
degree of editorial control. That said, we hope that our business model
and background as avid historical novel readers will allow us to be
somewhat more adventurous in support of new authors than most
publishers. Authors based outside the UK are welcome to submit, but
should be aware of several points mentioned in our author guidelines
<http://www.quaestor2000.com/faq.php?cat_id=4> .

We look forward to hearing from you.

Roger Bennett, Director, Quaestor2000 Ltd

In the Footsteps of Gilgamesh

(Edited by Mark S. Deniz)

1st April 2009, Gilgamesh Press will publish its first anthology, In the Footsteps of Gilgamesh. We want to help promote new writers – one of our company goals – by reserving a slot in the anthology for a story from a writer who is, as yet, unpublished in any fiction medium.

The anthology will concern itself with tales from Assyrian mythology, such as the creation story and the Epic of Gilgamesh (details available on Wikipedia ). However, the stories in In the Footsteps of Gilgamesh will be interpretations or re-writes of these myths, and will fall under the genre umbrella of speculative fiction.

This means that before you write, you need to familiarise yourself with Assyrian mythology.

We are not strictly looking for re-written myths based in ancient Mesopotamia, you may write, for example, a futuristic science-fiction tale, a fantasy short story which takes place on another world or a straight horror story, as long as there is clearly some reference to the original myth.

Your story should be between 3,000 – 5,000 words and must contain speculative fiction elements (such as those mentioned above).

Any questions for those unsure of the theme are welcome and can be directed to: [email protected]

Submissions must be sent in Rich Text Format (.rtf), Double Spaced in Courier New font and the subject line should state ‘Submission: (your story title)’. Send your submissions to: [email protected]

Your stories will be read by a panel of six judges and the winning entry will be chosen to be published in the anthology. The winner will also receive two copies of the book.

The deadline is 1st December 2008 and all writers will be notified as to the status of their story as soon after this date as possible.
