...At least for me.

It doesn't appear in the forum list.

If I search on (for example) my username, I see a list of posts I made in the forum, with no associated forum... and I can't access them (I get a "Your user account may not have sufficient privileges" message).

More troubling, if I click on my username and select "find more posts", nothing in query letters shows up.

So what gives? Is it just me?

No, it isn't. They're trying to destroy our minds. No query letter fixes for us to survive on. I want my query letter hell. I need my query letter hell.
SOMEBODY HAD BETTER FIX IT BEFORE I GO EVEN MORE CRAZY!!!

Best of luck,

Jim Clark-Dawe

JIM.

I love your ridiculous amounts.

Yeah I'm sort of freaking out cause um my query was lost in there?

I need that query.

It was pretty sick.

I don't have it.

Plus I don't want Jim to die...

Oh dear. The data seems to have been munched. I can rebuild the room - but I'm not sure we're going to be able to rebuild the posts.

The interesting thing about all this is I've found out how many of posts are in query letter hell. Out of 1478, 185 posts are not there. Percentage wise this means that 87.5% of my posts were for query letters.

Does this make me a geek or what?!?!

Best of luck,

Jim Clark-Dawe

It makes you a GOD, Jim.

I know everyone was sitting on the edge of their seats, so I'd like you to know that I've reconstructed my query letter.

We love Jim.

We do.

He's basically Satan in query hell but... I'm having a hard time spinning this analogy in a way that reflects positively on Jim but that was my intent. Honest.

So if anyone lost something but can remember a line from it or whatever, pm me. I'll see if I can find it in google cache.

ETA: Bah. I'm an eejit. It won't work 'cause it's password protected. So no web caches.
Sorry.

What atually happened? What evil force conspired to munch Query Letter hell?

Most importantly, are Andrew's stickys able to be resurrected?

ETA: I suppose that the plural of 'sticky' is technically 'stickies'... right? 'Stickys' looks somehow stickier, though.

I just figured that most of my time here is spent helping others with their query letters. And I figure I lost probably close to 3,000 time consuming, well thought out, brilliant replies to query threads. And it seems it has taken them away from my post count. I'd be happy just to receive the adjusted credit in my profile.

I agree with this, those who had that many posts should get posts added to their count, it's really only fair since it was a glitch and not admin decisonmaking behind this loss. I just wanted to sound off and thank Fahim and Mac and the others for doing everything they could to get AW back online and in shape, and it just goes to show, if you see something amiss, post or PM an admin about it ASAP, you never know what could be behind the downtime and if it's at all related to the software having some kind of mess, bad cycle whatever you wanna call software failure by, it can result is data loss. :(

Thank you to Jim and the other Query Letter Critiquers, you all are awesome! Please don't let the loss of your posts mean you stop offering your wonderful advice. :)

You can trade 5,000 posts for a Malibu Stacy action figure so yeah, it's important to some people.

Query letter hell is out there somewhere. Although when I look at my posts, they've disappeared, when I go into my rep points, they show a link. When I click on one, I get the following message:

jclarkdawe, you do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons:
  1. Your user account may not have sufficient privileges to access this page. Are you trying to edit someone else's post, access administrative features or some other privileged system?
  2. If you are trying to post, the administrator may have disabled your account, or it may be awaiting activation.
So, give the mods some time and our wonderful computer geeks, and I'm sure that Andrew's stickies will be found.

Meanwhile, I suppose we'll all survive. We've got a pale imitation up, so maybe that will work.

Best of luck,

Jim Clark-Dawe

I tried finding some of the queries using the method from the problem back in June, 2006 - do a Google search for a topic and then look at the cached pages. I didn't get anything from the query letter forum - no hits at all but there were hits from other forums. I also noticed that what was coming up was pretty old which makes me wonder whether the (recent) history disappeared.

I just tried going into my personal computer history since I knew I'd looked at query letters this week - I got the same "do not have permission" message Jim mentioned when I tried to view the queries page. FWIW.

What did happen last night? I couldn't get on the forum, then finally was able to after 9 EST and many of the forums showed no posts at all. I'm just curious. And, if there's any way of retrieving the queries by doing searches I'm willing to help. Puma

Oh my, that IS the most important question here!!
At the least, his "How to Write A Query Letter" is in the FAQ section, too (praise jeebus!).

ETA: And "On Queries and Agents: Information Sources" is in Ask The Agent.
