There are quite a few. I'll break the task into chunks...big, enjoyable chunks.

Day Of Dreams:

Valenties day, buisnesses try to take lead.
Red roses, chocolates,
can't we get over it?
It's a money making holiday, can't you read?
All of this crazyness begs the question; Will she love my gift?
Oh My, I just went broke 2 months ago!
One quick painful flash in the money pan.
How about patching up unresolved spousal riffs?
This day, Valentines, it's complicated.
The roses, the flowers, the chocolate,
what a laugh it is.
You give love through money, was is equally reciprocated?
Life and love is everyday.
It's not one stupid Valentine's, market-money making holiday.

-----------

Sorry to be negative, I just am not a fan of V- Day but I loved the contest. I hope you all enjoy.

forget it...I just read the first post. I will see if I can comprehend? Any samples you can point me too though?

Kevin, if you can fit your facility with beautiful images into a sonnet form, I may have to kill myself, but it will be a happy death.

Shakespeare did a good few -- for some reason I seem to remember #41 as a favorite. Elizabeth Barrett Browning wrote a bunch too -- see Sonnets from the Portuguese.

Also, Shelley's Ozymandias is a fine work, one that is familiar to many.

There's an e.e. cummings sonnet laying around the boards in one of the rate-a-poem threads; I'll come back with the link. Sorry - couldn't find it.

Note, also, that Limey's loosened the rules around form for this comp.
Found the cummings sonnet: It's here, in the Blind Spots thread (which I should bump; I like it).

As Limey's pointed out, we may have been inappropriately reposting poems. I thought we were okay as long as we provided a link back to the source. I'll ask around.

This is going to be a tough vote! I have 10 that I really liked and 5 on my short list. How on earth can I decide which I like the best!?!?!? They're all so different.

I'm sleeping on it.

If it's any help, the votes have been across the board. Everyone, it seems, has a different idea of what a good Sonnet is (and that's the point, really.)

In the early going, it's getting quite crowded at the top...your votes (those of you procrastinating) could make all the difference.
