Honestly I am such a Christmas song nerd that I love them all.

However I am going to go with Baby It's Cold Outside-the Natalie Cole and James Taylor version

My daughter voted for Santa Baby- Madonna style.

I love Ave Maria done by the Vienna Boys' Choir. I think it's probably my favourite. Silent Night and Away in the Manger would be next on the list...and then Angels We Have Heard On High.

The one that always brings me to an emotional high is Oh Holy Night.

I think it's interesting that Adam, who wrote the music to the lyrics, was a Jew. His tune is a testament to the wonderful gift of music God gave him.
One wonders what he was thinking as he read the words; developing the soaring notes.
He was a professional, hired to do a job. Perhaps he felt nothing--well, maybe just a little. I prefer to think that.

Contemporary Christmas favorite:
Mary Did You Know?

Interesting thing about this song is that it was written by comedian Mark Lowery. One normally wouldn't associate such depth with a comic. Gives me great hope for III. :D

Traditional favorites:
Joy to the World
Oh Come All Ye Faithful

Favorite Christmas Song that isn't a Christmas song:
Hallelujah Chorus from Handel's Messiah

Since it follows Worthy Is The Lamb That Was Slain, it's actually an Easter song.

I'm a horrible person. I don't like Christmas music. At all. I've heard far too much of it. I've had my lifetime quota. It's everywhere and you can't escape it. I think part of the reason I don't like it is because it's forced on you, everywhere you go.

If I had to pick one, I would say The Little Drummer Boy. I don't mind hearing that once or twice a season. It used to make me cry as a little boy. I remember having to sing it in elementary school for the Christmas Show and it never failed to make me cry whenever I heard it. LOL

I guess I do have one other exception to my adverse reaction to Christmas music. To hear children singing the songs is touching. They sing Christmas songs with full feeling and from the deepest part of themselves. It's honest. I do enjoy that.

Like Big Band? Try "Frosty the Bluesman" by Denver and the Mile High Orchestra. You won't hear it in stores or anything like that.

Yes, I'm 100% biased in DMHO's favor. It's painfully obvious. :D

I have a bias for Big Bands, too. I love DMHO. Which reminds me, aren't you getting ready to sing in their choir before too long?

ETA: As you can see from the NGAB thread in Pop Culture, I will not be singing with DMHO next weekend. They made the cut to the next round. :e2bummed: But all 120 of us Once and Future (we hope!) chorus members are voting like maniacs to try and help them win this thing.

GO DMHO!

Kansas! Again.
I gotta chime in:

My favorite is "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen." Fun song; classic; easy to coordinate for a large group of musicians, and it is easy to make cool adjustments to the melody.

I'm sorry to hear this. I know how much you were looking forward to the opportunity. On the bright side, nobody said you can't sing along!

Hark! The Herald Angel Sings

As a kid, I once asked my mom during Christmas time, 'Who's Harold?' When pressed, I explained that the song goes, 'Hark the Harold Angel Sings', and I didn't know how this guy Harold fit into it all.
