But I do have a discount coupon from Borders. :)

I'm looking for a good horror anthology. Any recommendations?

Haggis...I also enjoyed the 'Necroscope' series more than any normal person should enjoy anything.

The 'Psychomorph Series' was good, too.

It might be out of print, but 'House on the Borderland' (also Lumley) was a rolicking bit of Lovecraftian fun that everyone should enjoy!

HAPPY :)HUGS!!!!

(note...I believe Lumely was born the day H.P. Lovecraft died.)

I picked up Al Sarrentino's 999 from the library this summer and enjoyed a number of stories from it. I also read some of the Borders stories from Cemetary Dance. They ranged from weird to wild. My latest read is Dark Delicaccies. It's got stories from Clive Barker, Ray Bradbury, Chelsea Quinn Yarbro, just to name a few. If you haven't already, you should be able to get these from Borders.

Run, don't walk, to buy Shadows over Baker Street! I'm at work, so I can't pluck it from my bookshelf to give you the editors' names. Sherlock Holmes vs. the Cthulhu Mythos. Opening story by Neil Gaiman: "A Study in Emerald."

How do you feel about ebooks? I'll give you a copy of The Chronicles of a Madman if you want it. It's my first-born child. Parts of it are horror. The rest are just horrible.

Funny. All this time I thought Brian Lumley wrote Neanderthal, which I thought was a horrid book. But when I just looked on Lumley's books on Amazon, it wasn't there. Turns out someone else wrote it, but the cover and title looked so much like Lumley's that I confused them.

I apologize to Lumley and I will now try Necroscope.

Great suggestions, folks. I haven't read enough of Lumley or Barker anyhow.

Pike, I agree on 999. Read that some time ago. Lots of good stuff in there. I'll check for new mags too.

Calla, you'll hate me for saying this, but Lovecraft ain't my favorite. Still, the idea of the juxtaposition of two contrasting writing styles sounds interesting, so, if the store has 'em, I'll take a look. Just tell me there are no cats. Lovecraft always had cats in his stories. So many cats! :D

I love ebooks, larocca, and I love to read stuff by AWers. I'd appreciate taking a look at your first-born.

Ah, Jay. Sweet Jay. This is me you're talking to. Homey don't write novels. I write short stories. I blame Edgar Allen Poe for that. He got me hooked right after I was weaned.

Keep 'em coming folks. You're making my shopping trip more interesting.

Have you ever tried Edward Lee? I'm currently reading his "Monstrosity." The cover blurb calls him something like "the most hardcore of the hardcore horror writers" or something like that (the book is at home). I'm not sure I know what that means, but its a good read so far.

It's not an anthology, it's a novel though.

An anthology is a collection of short stories, no? I don't read many short stories.

Ach! How could I forget. And I just finished reading Something Bad too.

Yes, that's a definite. Thanks for reminding me, Trish. And for anyone who hasn't read it yet, Something Bad is well worth buying too.

:e2thud:If I had only known of your inexplicable distaste for HP before I killed you. Another opportunity lost. *sigh*

It's been awhile since I've read the antho. There are bees in one. Lots of otherworldly critters, of course. I honestly don't recall if there's a cat story. There is one female assassin who has panther-like qualities. Does that count?

I have an abiding allergy to Holmes pastiches. This antho does Conan Doyle proud. Only Laurie King does it as well in her Mary Russell series.

Another suggestion: Brian Keene. He delights me with his zombies and earth-devouring worms. Truly a fun and scary read.

Pretty soon you'll have an anthology of stories about Haggis. Mmmm hmmm.
What shall we call it, The Haggis and the Fury, Interview with a Haggis, Rita Hayworth and the Haggis Redemption, or possibly Haggis in a Bottle?
