So, we have the Coffee House of Pain, but occasionally even the most regular of the denizens there find themselves having to take off the black beret, step into the sunlight, and celebrate (at least until the next rejection comes to put us back into our dark and desperate, but chocolate-filled, place.)

Welcome to Happy Hour at the Sunshine Cafe.

My first publication, a prose poem called "Some Notes Should I Happen to Become (Somewhat) Omnipotent," went live over the weekend in flashquake. It has art! It has my name! It even has a coffee- and chocolate-friendly bio!

I've baked some Killer Brownies and brewed fresh iced tea and coffee. C'mon in and set a spell.

No "new" things to post, but I'm into chapter 12 of the mystery, which is good.

Got invited to a press junket (I swear, they actually used that word) for the release of the new John Hurt film, Beyond the Gates. Yeah, if I lived near NYC, I could've interviewed Hurt hiumself! Except that I live 450 miles north of there and wouldn't watch the movie on a bet. It's another rip-out-yer-guts-and-slit-yer-wrists story of the Rwandan massacres. But it's nice to be on these lists. Maybe someday...

But for now, I'll stick to phone interviews of as-yet-unknown rock bands.

yeah. I like this. *blinks* it's so bright and shiny in here. this room will be the yin to my rejection yang. (why am I fearful my yin will be lopsided. sigh...)

okay. something to celebrate. I just had an essay published as a guest blogger at As We Are Magazine. It's called Tiaras, Glitter, and All Things Girlie.

I'm so happy they published it. Now, if I could just get some fiction published. grrr.

anyway, chocolate cake for everyone!! I am celebrating.

Yum, Pike. And to add to the decadence, Azraelsbane mentioned a cherry-pomegranate margarita and now I SO want one of those, too.

I queried the place I usually freelance for, asking if they'd like a series of short articles on my experience in the DMHO backup choir, and they said yes! So early in December I'll be singing--and writing--madly.

Homemade bread and peach butter on a table by the coffeepot. It's chilly today--come warm up with comfort food.
