In all seriousness, I'm very unsure what direction this discussion is supposed to go. Like:

What's the difference between
sudden fiction
flash fiction
short-short stories
prose poetry
?

Is there supposed to be room in this form for anything like a plot? or is the writer advised to go after a gimmick, a punchline like a shaggy-dog story?

The term "ready for publication" has already surfaced a dozen times. Publication where? Is there any cash to be had, or prestige? What are the big contests?

Hi Anthony, thanks for popping over, and some good questions. It is a new forum and we havent uploaded everything yet, so give us a few days and everything will become very clear.

Sudden fiction, flash fiction and short-short stories are all all ways to descibe fiction that has a very short word limit - usually shorter than 1000 words. Prose poetry is something else altogether. Prose Poetry is a form of writing and is slightly different to flash - which is purely word limitation, but it can be flash if it keeps within the word limitation.

Is there supposed to be room in this form for anything like a plot? or is the writer advised to go after a gimmick, a punchline like a shaggy-dog story?

Form is very much up to the author. There is room for experimention in short fiction, as much as there is anywhere else.

The term "ready for publication" has already surfaced a dozen times. Publication where? Is there any cash to be had, or prestige? What are the big contests?

We (as in those who are participating and those who wish to help) will be helping to suggest a possible market for the stories posted. This forum is geared towards those who want to take the next step and send their stories away to publications (as in magazines or e-zines). Whether there are any cash advantages will depend on the market which the story has been sent to by the author.

I'm really glad you asked this, Anthony, it's something we wanted to start discussion around.

I've started a separate thread for it here: The key to sudden fiction?
