I just joined the other day. I am Jayda Haley (pen name) and I'm in my late 50's. I hail from Ontario, Canada. I just started writing about 3 years ago, initially for an adult (not porn) site. I had good feedback and was enjoying it, so I continued. I'm a big animal lover, esp horses and dogs, but due to my health and mobility issues, I do not have any pets at the time. Believe it or not, I am not a big reader. I used to be, many years go, but it fell by the wayside when I bought a computer. I do read the odd book online, but I'm more into writing. Other interests are debating, playing Scrabble and I'm addicted to Facebook! I was a member of another writing community that deleted it's forums and have been looking for a replacement ever since. I liked what I saw here at AbsoluteWrite so I signed up. I look forward to being a member here.

Thank you for the welcomes! The forums look great, but I don't have the patience for the painfully slow loading of pages. I'm not a reliable high speed cable connection and I feel like I'm on dial up, so I don't know how often I will come here.

We're moving to a new server and new forum software in the next few weeks. The site was maliciously knocked offline by a DDOS attack early last year; some of the changes to counter effect ongoing attempts to knock us offline again are going to slow down the site.

That will improve post move.

We had a lousy connection for years, even before AW got hit with the DDOS attack, so I have a few suggestions.

- Compose your message in an external (plain text) editor
- Don't preview before you post (unless you have to; composing in an external editor can help here too)
- If quoting a post is taking too long, reference the post number in your reply and use quote tags instead
- If you're having trouble with rep points, consider sending a private message instead, even if it's just a thank-you

We're all accessing from various different setups, so we all know hiccups and typos happen. I encourage you to post anyway.

There have been as many as 36000 bots attempting to register or insert malware code at various times *today*.

That's not even the record.

And before you ask, yes, I'm blocking IPs. I'm blocking entire countries, frankly.

Wow, that's awful! Why do people do that stuff? I have way better things to do w/ my time! Thank you for the reply.
