I love philosophy, and I've been told I'm good at writing. I really want to use the latter to express the former. I'm not well-read in the ancients, and I think there are enough "crash course"/"For Dummies" guides out there. I want to engage with ideas from more modern philosophers like Jordan Peterson and Alan Watts (though he's fast becoming ancient, ha). However, I don't think I'm versed enough to write a book or anything.

I could really use some direction. What should I do right now, and how, to enter the philosophical community?

I suggest you go beyond "crash courses" and do an actual degree. Remember that many readers, reviewers and editors of specialized nonfiction have advanced degrees themselves.
