I don't know if I belong here. I'm not a writer, just a fan of well-written horror literature. Have been a fan of anything dark or evil or scary since I was a kid. I started with POE'S short stories, plus all of the E.A. POE movies with Vincent Price in the 60's. In high school, I found my first collection of H.P. LOVECRAFT stories. The first one I read was "the outsider", It's still one of my favorites. In the 80's I started reading CHARLES L. GRANT'S stuff. I still have every one of the oxrun station books, greystone bay, all of them. Then I found BRIAN LUMLEY'S necroscope series, I've read the majority of those , along with his titus crow stories. I've also read the usual authors, MACHEN, DERLETH, CAMPBELL, BARKER, AND ETCHISON. I'm probably in the minority here, but I'm not a fan of stephen king. I find his stuff too long winded and with cliche' endings, I know what's going to happen before it happens. Just my opinion, nothing more, nothing less. Any way, that's why I'm here, to interact with like-minded people that read and write about my favorite subject, the unknown.

Welcome to AW, MR. MACABRE!

Yes, this is primarily a writers' forum but there's plenty of room for readers, too. All writers should be readers anyway, right? And often readers find themselves turning into writers...

We've got a healthy (or unhealthy, depending on your point of view) number of horror writers on the boards, so I'm sure you'll quickly find peeps to interact with.

Happy reading (and possibly writing)!

The dark side of the moon, making sinister plans..
Welcome! I am also a big horror fan, and I agree with you on Stephen King (mostly). I have enjoyed a few of his stories, but also found myself plodding through many more for little reward. Win some, lose some.
Clive Barker is my personal favorite. That man's writing is primal, bestial and very satisfying.

I digress, so play some games, check out some forums and most of all have fun!

Hello and welcome! it sounds like you've digested a plethora of excellent work over the years. I don't think anyone would mind having an extra reader around here lol. Happy reading and if you're thinking about bridging the gap to writing yourself this is definitely the place to get tips.

Welcome. As others have said, writers need readers. You don't have to write to critique, especially with your history of reading. You know what 'good' looks like, right? You don't even need to be an expert in grammar or punctuation to critique the content of a story.
