All right, folks, I'm starting this thread again. I find myself once again writing a short story for a horror anthology and suffer greatly from not being horrified. Your guidance the last time helped me sell a piece and I'd like to do it again. Are there any tried and true tricks of the trade that I should be considering? I've written a tale that is well paced and interesting - to me at any rate - and includes things that ought to be scary. The challenge for me is that it comes across as thrillerish instead of horrifying. That said, most horror, both written and screened, are just thrillers to me.

Thoughts?
