I had to post somewhere. It's the middle of the night. I can't call my writer friends or normal friends.

I finished!

5 drafts.
Too many years. (Almost autocorrected to "tears")
82,600 words
25 chapters + an epilogue

I still have polishing to do to get it query-ready, but developmentally the book feels complete.

My first full length, heavily edited novel.

Ignore my signature. It's out of date!

Thank you, guys! It does feel great! Now on to the scary part: querying.

Congrats!!!

Naturally I had to read your signature since you said to ignore it, and was so tickled to see Morrison and Doctorow both in it, as they are recent reads for me. (actually, I'm in the middle of Ragtime now.)

Years ago, Toni Morrison came to speak at my college along with 2-3 other authors. The moderator asked what book each of them would bring to a deserted island. The others each named a title. Morrison said she would bring a pad of paper and a pen. At the time, I thought her response was arrogant but it stuck with me. I have grown to appreciate it and even think, "what other answer could there be?"

It fits with the quote I picked for my signature. Really, what other reason is there to write a book?

Coming in late but yes, now that's an accomplishment. All the best of luck with the many, many rewrites.
