August shattered like sugar glass
in thrall to the mean dumb summer—

.....Boot heels fixed their rhythm
.....while the furious found their rhyme
.....and the ruling class served platitudes
.....in metronomic time.

God damn this wicked electric air
that hangs like poison between us.

At first I thought that I didn't like it, but then I decided that I did. The "mean dumb summer"...You kind of let it grumble as you say it as a kind of curse.
