Hello all,

The beta-reader step has arrived at long last. Swaps are fine, partial or total. Adult Fantasy, 133K.

From the as-of-yet unused query letter:

Nineteen-year-old Kassina's life used to be simple: Don't get caught, don't get killed, and always look out for number one. But when a royal messenger arrives at the detective agency where she works, everything changes for the former rogue. Her boss is busy wrapping up a major investigation, and thus Kassina, the street-wise loner, is assigned to lead a team of fellow detectives on a case. Kassina may not have much experience as a lead investigator, but the old man trusts her drive and judgment to keep everyone on track, and more importantly, alive.

The succession of a neighboring kingdom is in peril, and Kassina is charged with securing the rightful heir before the dynasty's enemies can take advantage of the unrest. The old king lies dying, and with his two sons recently deceased, the succession falls to a nephew who vanished four years ago while on a treasure hunt in the frozen north. Tasked to find the missing royal, dead or alive, Kassina must decipher the vague notes in the treasure-hunter's journal. The northlands are a big place for Kassina to search, and the impending coronation cannot be stalled for long. She will have to fight her way through snow monsters and orc raiders every step of the way. And if all that weren't bad enough, other potential claimants within the court would undoubtedly prefer that this “cold” case never be solved at all.

The Lost Heir is an adult fantasy novel, complete at 113,000 words.
