The smoke has been improving here too, but it was a bit worse again today. Still, it's better than it was a week or so ago, and the overall trajectory is improvement as more of the fires are controlled. The weather is cooler, and I hear there's been some rain up in the PNW too, so hopefully the worst is past.

But I do wish we could get some early rain here this year to give the terrain a bit of resistance to any more fires that might start. Because some of the State's worst fires happen in Oct and Nov even (like the Camp fire two years ago). They get the Santa Ana Winds (hot, dry downslope winds) in the fall down in Southern CA, and Diablo winds on the coastal parts of Northern CA. In the old days, they would often whip up in October, and they always brought fires. The Diablo winds were involved in the horrifically fast moving Tubbs fire that burned into Santa Rosa in 2017 was in Oct. The Camp fire that burned the town of Paradise was in Nov. More recently, they've had Santa Ana winds in January down south.

The horrible thing is the fire season starts earlier and runs later now, and not just in the western US, because those bushfires in Australia last year were surreal and horrifying. There were also terrible fires in Siberia, and in South America.
