Hi there!
My real-life name is Stacey and my username, buttons, comes from an old depression glass pattern - buttons and bows. I am a complete newbie not only to forums in general, but also to writing, so thank you for your patience and advice!
Up until about 3 years ago, I exclusively read non-fiction. I'm not sure what shifted but nowadays the genres I am most drawn to read are fantasy, YA, historical fiction, and cookbooks if you can call that a genre? I have a really hard time selecting favorites, but a few books I've read and really enjoyed over the last few years include My Favorite Thing Is Monsters by Emil Ferris, The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas, Midnight Chicken by Ella Risbridger, Creatures by Chrissy Van Meter, Still Life with Tornado by A.S. King, Little by Edward Carey, and Sourdough by Robin Sloan.
I joined AWC because I have an idea for a novel based on a small blog & podcast I have, but have no idea how to start so am hoping I can find some guidance and inspiration from real writers! The blog is about modern home economics, and the novel is a blend of magic and home economics. I was looking for a way to teach people the basics of home economics in a fun way, since self-help books typically put me to sleep .
Are there any threads that deal with outlining/drafting for novel writing in particular that I should start with?
I am looking forward to engaging with this community!
