My name is James and I've always wanted to write and be an author when I was younger. I've been on and off writing for years as my motivations shifted, but recently I just want to attempt writing for the joy it brings me and constantly find my self doubt getting in the way. So I was talking to my therapist and she recommended becoming a part of an online community where people talk about writing and encourage each other to write. So here I am. Welcome to you, James. I hope you understand that writing for the pleasure it gives you to do it is a perfectly reasonable goal. There was a stretch of several years where I wrote entirely for myself and didn't show it to anyone, and that was just fine. If nobody sees it, the self-doubt kind of dissolves, and that emboldens a person to experiment, or write something weird or deeply personal, or in my case both.
