Hi all,
I need to include a date and location at the beginning of my first chapter, but I cannot find information anywhere on how that should be formatted. I can't put it directly under my chapter heading because I already have a subheading. I thought I would left justify it at the top of the first paragraph, but it doesn't look right. What I want to write is: North Carolina, 1890.
Please help!
Thank you!

This is what I have done on past WIP:

Chapter 1
The Letter Writer

January 15, 1732
Charles Town, NC

It was just another day on Soto Rd...

I've seen them written this way too:

Chapter 1
The Urchin

October 7, 1944

Atlanta, Georgia

I'm seconding what Cindyt says. I prefer the version with the date/place left-justified.

But this isn't something to worry about too much. If ever you get published, the formatting will be handled by the publisher, and they most likely will have a house style. At this stage, just make sure it's clear and consistent.
