Bill Barr drops charges against Michael Flynn after he pleaded guilty

RawStory said:
Attorney General Bill Barr and the Justice Department have dropped all of the charges against former Director of National Intelligence Michael Flynn, despite his guilty plea. Flynn then moved to remove his guilty plea three years later, in Jan. 2020.

The Associated Press reported Thursday afternoon that according to court filings, the charges would be dropped.

...

Rule of law? Guffaw.

There is Rule of Trump, and that is it. There's even a Death Star to enforce it now.

Judge Sullivan, who once asked whether the DOJ wanted to include a charge of Treason against Flynn, does not have to sign off on this. Flynn did plead guilty. Twice. That would mean Trump would have to actually pardon him and have to answer for that at some point.

"Don't worry - we'll fix all this in our free and fair November election!"
- too many people still convincing themselves this is a temporary aberration and not a mortal wound that's been bleeding out for three years

Ralph's side of the island.
Trump needs to get his buddies off without looking like he did it. Also, it plays into the 'hoax' impeachment.

I know it's a pipe dream but I'd love to see Barr prosecuted after this.

Another side of the story?

in part: (note- the author of this piece is not a conservative)

The FBI went off the reservation. The agents who interviewed Flynn as part of this Russia collusion investigation noted that they felt he didn’t do anything wrong; he didn’t lie to them. But even after there was no collusion was proven, the FBI still went after Flynn. When the government goes after you, they will break you financially, so please—let’s not kid ourselves with the ‘he plead guilty’ talking point we’re seeing from the Left, who are going bonkers over the DOJ dropping the case.

From a look at his Twitter, he gives some weak defense of environmental justice and spends all his time pushing RW and 4Chan-left conspiracies (Biden is dead!) while defending Trump. Puh-leez! Just another one of those thirsty leftist grifters who will do anything to kneecap Dems and suddenly decides writing for far-right media is where the money's at.

More than 2,000 ex-DOJ employees call for Attorney General Barr's resignation

More than 2,000 ex-employees of the Department of Justice have signed a letter calling on Attorney General William Barr to resign, writing that his handling of the Roger Stone case "openly and repeatedly flouted" the principle of equal justice under the rule of law.

The signatures of the former employees, who served under Democratic and Republican presidencies, were gathered by Protect Democracy, a bipartisan group that has been critical of the Trump administration.

The alumni called current DOJ employees to "report future abuses" and acknowledged that "because we have little expectation" Barr will resign, "it falls to the Department’s career officials to take appropriate action to uphold their oaths of office and defend nonpartisan, apolitical justice.”

From the letter:

Such behavior is a grave threat to the fair administration of justice. In this nation, we are all equal before the law. A person should not be given special treatment in a criminal prosecution because they are a close political ally of the President. Governments that use the enormous power of law enforcement to punish their enemies and reward their allies are not constitutional republics; they are autocracies.
We welcome Attorney General Barr’s belated acknowledgment that the DOJ’s law enforcement decisions must be independent of politics; that it is wrong for the President to interfere in specific enforcement matters, either to punish his opponents or to help his friends; and that the President’s public comments on DOJ matters have gravely damaged the Department’s credibility. But Mr. Barr’s actions in doing the President’s personal bidding unfortunately speak louder than his words. Those actions, and the damage they have done to the Department of Justice’s reputation for integrity and the rule of law, require Mr. Barr to resign. But because we have little expectation he will do so, it falls to the Department’s career officials to take appropriate action to uphold their oaths of office and defend nonpartisan, apolitical justice.

At the moment, the number of signers is 2689.
